The Bagel Place originally started in Burlington, Vermont around about 2012-2013 by my dad Algis, my brother in law Nate and myself. Although the obsession my family has with bagels can be derived much earlier from my dad who had a bagel as his first meal in America; we are originally from Lithuania. So once our favorite bagel spot in town had closed its doors we desperately wanted to fill the void. Read More>>

Ten years ago, I started as an audio/video integrator in New Jersey and in the last five years my wife and I decided to relocate to Massachusetts. I always had a passion for the custom side of the A/V industry and loved to see the smile on my clients faces when we finished an installation. Two years ago, I was speaking with a speaker builder that I have known for many years and I pitched an idea that would fully integrate my love of custom A/V with his love of design to bring a unique line of custom speakers and enclosures to the market. About ten years ago, I had already been playing music in various bands throughout Boston, but didn’t really have a steady job. A friend of a friend, who had heard I was looking for work and needed a flexible schedule to keep playing music, introduced me someone who ran a moving company. At first, it was a great fit — the hours were flexible, no day was ever the same, and there were always new situations from which I could learn something (even things I never in a million years wanted to learn). I’m originally from Helena, MT and since the age of 5, I have been absolutely obsessed with figure skating. This was not always an easy sport to pursue in Montana because there are only a few ice rinks in the entire state, all of which are open only for hockey season. There were many times I would drive up to 6 hours for a couple hours of ice time. Read More>>

When I was in the 3rd grade, a classmate at school rushed over to me with a vibrant violent colored eyeshadow that she brought from home After spreading the color all over my eyelids, strutting around the classroom like it was a runway, and getting a note sent home to my mother about the incident, I was driven to prove that makeup is an art form. Throughout high school, I would wake up early every morning excited to go to school to flaunt my makeup look of the day, often sporting bright colors and textures, and of course, heavy eyeliner (Hey, it was the 2000s after all!) I would experiment with makeup any opportunity I got, even trying my hand in special effects using wax and blood to turn my dance company into zombies before a reenactment of “Thriller” on the town common. My mother is the kind of mom who raised her children to be two things: good people and animal-lovers. The kind of animal-lovers where we’d wake up most mornings to the sounds of our mom serenading the cats and dogs. If we rolled out of bed fast enough, we’d be lucky (or unlucky, some might say) to catch one of her little “dance numbers of love” every now and then. This kind of behavior was completely normal to all of us. Read More>>

Boston Tutoring Center (BTC) was founded in 2002 by Anne Yount (Ms. Anne) when working with her 11 year old son to prepare for the ISEE (Independent Schools Entrance Exam) for the Boston exam school and independent school admissions tests. BTC started offering small group ISEE prep classes in 2004 in Ms. Anne’s home. Considering how successful and respected Splash is as a kitchen design centers, it’s interesting to note that we began life on “the other side of the wall,” as we like to call it. Before we mastered the artistry of designing exquisite bathrooms and kitchens, our parent company, The Portland Group, was and still is one of New England’s premier heating, plumbing, air conditioning and ventilation wholesalers. We grew into such an expert resource, top-tier manufacturers approach us to help them display and sell the very fixtures we were distributing. That’s how Splash was born. Read More>>

I started to study shiatsu in 1975. I had already been exploring alternative medicine to the extent that I had lived in a yoga ashram for a year. I had fairly serious problems with colitis at the time I decided to move into the ashram. Read More>>

I drew my first floor plan in the 5th grade and have been redecorating every since. But it wasn’t until after I left a career teaching middle school to study Residential Interiors at the Boston Architectural College that I discovered I was allergic to the snooty design world. Pushing furniture on people for a profit didn’t sit well with me. Read More>>

To briefly walk through through the story of my life, would do it injustice. There are plenty of people that tried to keep me from going far in life, but I knew there was more than Just being behind a desk, whilst my soul slowly eats away at me. I’ve always craved to be social, and not only on Facebook. After working several years, as a telemarketer, and finishing many semesters. . Read More>>

I began as an installer for Tweeter (out of the Commonwealth Ave store). There, I learned the trade and was trained by the best. As that company closed, I began FHHT in 2006. Originally, we had a storefront right on Federal Hill in Providence RI. But with the our growth, we’ve needed to expand our parking options. Thus, we moved to Warwick RI – right off 95 next to CCRI.

I’d been a stay at home Mom for 20+ years and had gone back to school for fashion design. Going back to design school gave me a feeling of confidence and a willingness to take risks. I’d been a “maker” since I was a child, sewing, crafting and knitting. I love textiles and “making” a fabric. Read More>>

In 2012, my wife, Sheri, and I made the decision to leave behind our sales and consulting jobs and pursue our passion of coaching athletes of all ages and ability levels. We started Action Athletics with the desire to see people reclaim the fun in their lives through physical activity. We coached group exercise TRX classes, and worked with clients 0ne-on-one, like many other great training facilities in the Boston area. Read More>>

My mom and step dad started the company in 1989. I joined the company when I graduated from high school in 1998. I was unsure on what I wanted to study in college so I figured I’d work a little bit, make some money, and then re-enroll in college once I “figured it out.” We were small back then with three trucks and very casual. I got into the small business world right after university by working for another entrepreneur in Pennsylvania. After a short time I started to manage some of his businesses: 3 tire shops, a mechanic shop and bar/restaurant. I got lots of experience and wanted to start something new in a bigger city like Boston or New York. Read More>>

Boston Homebrew Supply opened in April 2014 and I have been the owner since the summer of 2015. Three of my close friends and I had been brewing together for a few years before this shop opened and always got our ingredients from random, faraway places. When Boston Homebrew Supply opened in our neighborhood I think we were even more excited than the original owner himself to have such an awesome resource for supplies and advice, so we immediately wanted to build a community around it. I always knew I wanted to work with dogs, but initially I thought that would be as a veterinarian. I started Boston College on a pre-veterinary course track, but midway through I decided that was not the best fit for me. I realized I liked working with dogs much more than working on dogs. I became a dog walker my freshman year in college because I needed a job. Read More>>
