So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I got into the small business world right after university by working for another entrepreneur in Pennsylvania. After a short time I started to manage some of his businesses: 3 tire shops, a mechanic shop and bar/restaurant. I got lots of experience and wanted to start something new in a bigger city like Boston or New York.
I moved to Boston as I had an uncle here and shortly after came up with and started My Tire Guys – a premier mobile tire service. Having learned lots about the tire business in Pennsylvania I now had to become an expert in a business unknown to anyone, a mobile tire service.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The whole business has been a struggle as many are. What’s added to the difficulty is not having competition to emulate to a certain degree. From truck design to customer acquisition it’s all been very difficult. There have been many adaptations to overcome each obstacle along the way and the issues still continue. I’ve found it hard to market as the concept is so unknown and when initially noticed is often incorrectly classes as an emergency road side assistance service as opposed to a better alternative to a brick and mortar tire store. While we will go out to fix a flat it’s always pre-scheduled. We typically schedule appointments 2-3 days in advance.
My Tire Guys – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My Tire Guys is a premier mobile tire service based in Needham but service the North Shore, South Shore and Metro West area (pretty much an hour radius from Needham). We offer tire sales and service on a uniquely mobile basis. We also offer other tire/wheel related services such as wheels, TPMS (tire pressure monitoring system) service, seasonal tire/wheel changes, tire/wheel storage, tire repair and more.
We work on a wide variety of passenger vehicles but mostly service high end vehicles like luxury and sport vehicles. Customers call or email us, we get them an all-inclusive quote for new tires and then schedule an exact day and time to come out to their home or work. Our mobile tire service vehicles have top of the line tire mounting and balancing equipment so everything can be completed onsite!
We have an excellent reputation with over 500 5 Star reviews online! We have also won the Angie’s List Super Service award 4 years in a row.
