Meet Trailblazer Heather Conley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Conley.

Heather, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I having been working as a freelance makeup artist for up to 10 years. I am a full-time preschool teacher and primarily do makeup on weekends and during summer vacation. Most of my current clients are former bridesmaids or referrals from previous brides. I also enjoy working with younger clients who are attending special occasions such as proms and bat mitzvahs.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In today’s society, social media is a huge component of advertising your business. I think it’s important to develop relationships with photographers and videographers who are willing to share their work with you. It gives you an opportunity to display your work along with promoting their businesses. I’ve learned to take pride in my work. I feel a sense of fulfillment when I see a bride’s face light up as she looks at herself for the first time. I also love receiving sweet thank you messages from clients who felt absolutely beautiful for their special day just because of their makeup.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Heather Conley Makeup Artist – what should we know?
I specialize in a bridal application, makeup lesson and special occasion. Whether it’s the bride, mother of the bride or groom, bridesmaid, flower girl, a high schooler who is going to prom, I enjoy hearing each client’s individual story as they sit in my chair. Most clients say, “I could fall asleep.” I try my best to make it a relaxing experience and learn a little bit about each person.

So much of the media coverage is focused on the challenges facing women today, but what about the opportunities? Do you feel there are any opportunities that women are particularly well positioned for?
There are many opportunities for success in women’s work. I try my best to be a positive role model to women of all ages. I strive to promote confidence by helping each client bring out their inner and outer beauty through my work.
