Meet Reyna Delacruz of Beauty By Reyna

Today we’d like to introduce you to Reyna Delacruz.

Reyna, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
For as long as I could remember, I have always loved looking at art. From murals to sculptures, to the little flowers my mother would doodle on envelopes while she spoke on the phone. Growing up, I would watch my mother sit at her vanity and sweep rosy powders across her cheeks and paint her lips of a chocolate tint. I wondered how she would so effortlessly glide shimmery pigments above her eyes to resemble the night sky.

I realized makeup was a physical form of art and I began producing my own. After months and months of practice, I posted my first full face makeover on all of my social media. I created an Egyptian look that consisted of a lustrous gold lipstick and bright turquoise eyes. This post reached over two thousand people, and my notifications began flooding with comments from followers and mutual makeup lovers complimenting my work and asking for appointments with me!

With all of this positivity circulating my work, I also received negativity from people saying that women who wear makeup are insecure, frivolous and shallow. I disagree entirely, and I believe makeup is a way of emphasizing and showcasing one’s natural assets. Once I finish with a client, they look in the mirror and fall in love with themselves and refuse to stop smiling, that is why I love what I do.

From practicing on myself to satisfying over thirty clients during prom season, I am now booked for weddings and special events like fashion shows. My mission throughout Beauty By Reyna has always been about exhibiting my self-taught talent and making women feel most beautiful in such a harsh and demanding society. It has never been about the money. At only 18 years old, I have earned a spot for myself in the makeup business.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being a makeup artist consists of dedicating your time to your clients. Some days I would have no clients, some days I would have up to eighteen women starting from eight in the morning up until twelve at midnight.

At seventeen, I had to quit my job in retail to be able to keep up with my appointments as a makeup artist. I would have women book months in advance or merely the day of. I had to learn how to communicate to people that I also had a life and responsibilities of my own that I had to take care of.

In a sentence, please tell us about Beauty By Reyna.
Beauty By Reyna is not about the money; it’s about showcasing my talent and making women feel most beautiful.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory definitely has to be watching my mother do her makeup and feeling so happy at the end result.
