Today we’d like to introduce you to Olga Goldberger.
Olga, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I came here from Russia in 1984. Being a biologist by training, I started making my products in 1997 because my skin was too sensitive and I couldn’t use many commercial products. I wanted something natural and at the same time effective; I started researching ingredients and ways of mixing water and oil without use of chemical emulsifiers. Finally, I found the way – by using soy phospholipids. Not only did they produce liposomes but also worked as the only natural emulsifier in my mixes. I tried hundreds of different ingredients and finally perfected my formulas.
I had what I wanted: product natural and gentle enough for sensitive skin but at the same time effective in preventing wrinkles and working on improving existing wrinkles. Final versions of the products exist only last 12-18 months. I have laboratories in two locations- Boston and Falmouth, MA and I make all the products myself in small batches.
Has it been a smooth road?
It was a struggle for me- I was looking to avoid using common chemical emulsifiers like polysorbates, glyceryl oleate, laureth 3, glyceryl cocoate, Ceteareth-20, Cetearyl Alcohol, Stearic Acid, Cetyl Phosphate, Glyceryl Stearate Citrate, Sorbitan Stearate, Glycol Stearate, Cetearyl alcohol, ceteareth-20, etc.
It took me a while to find my way and experiment with Soy Phospholipids as my SOLO emulsifier in my formulas and it had a lot of extra benefits too. Soy Phospholipids produce Liposomes- tiny vehicles that deliver bioactive ingredients deep to the skin. They also are great moisturizers as a side benefit!
Also, being a mitochondrial biologist I wanted to select ingredients for my line that would benefit the health of our skin’s mitochondria. Mitochondria is a part of our cells that produce energy for us and also thanks to them we breath oxygen- they use oxygen and the food we intake to produce carbon dioxide and energy for all cellular processes. Our aging is in huge part depends on our mitochondrial function. So, it took me a while to find the most natural ingredients which are beneficial for our skin’s mitochondria!
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Arboretum Skincare – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We are very small start-up company. We specialize in facial anti-aging products, made naturally in a small volume (each batch is only 48 oz.). We use high tech natural ingredients in our formulas which stimulate the works of our skin cells’ mitochondria and slow down aging. All formulations are created using liposomes and ceramides and we do not use any chemical emulsifiers. Thanks to the advanced formulations the client doesn’t need to wait long time to see the results- one will see smoother skin in just 3-4 days of using our products!
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I like the best about Boston that it is a city with so much science and advance medicine as one can imagine. I love lots of parks and places to walk -especially Arnold Arboretum. We named our skincare company “Arboretum” because it means botanical garden in Latin and we are using all parts of plants in our formulas (herbs, roots, barks)… What I like the least about Boston- definitely, traffic.

Please tell us a bit about each product; what is its purpose? Are there some products geared for older skin etc? Is the line meant to be used together….your prices are not inexpensive, would like more info about them before spending a lot of money
