Meet Nikki Lank Bialow and Klee Miller of KliK parties in Newton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikki Lank Bialow and Klee Miller.

Nikki and Klee, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
We started out as two friends with the same passion for everything simple and beautiful, love of crafting and entertaining, and zeal for styling and detail, became two friends with an event planning company, KliK Parties. From a thematic tablescape at a birthday dinner, a quaint party favor and gifts with embellished packaging, to home designing and wardrobe styling, we were spending a great deal of time and energy releasing our creative vigor on friends and family. We both knew we longed for something bigger and, thus, KliK was born. Part Klee, part Nik, we set off to unfold KliK. From folding napkins at our first dinner party to now overseeing large scale corporate events, weddings, mitzvahs and such, we continue to make it our business to ensure every event is beautiful, memorable, and, most important, a fabulous time for all.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As with anything in life, challenges will be faced and we have certainly met some obstacles along the way. For example, the beachside wedding on Nantucket hit with unexpected downpours, or the time our entertainment got lost arriving to the venue, delaying the entire event timeline. We have had incorrect linens delivered, and not delivered entirely, experienced wilted floral upon arrival, staff shortages and electrical outages-all of these struggles were and continue to be teachable moments for us, a crucial part of growing and flourishing as seasoned event planners. Getting a backup plan into motion can be arduous, but also exhilarating when that challenge is successfully overcome, which fortunately has, to date, been our only experience.

KliK parties – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
KliK Parties is a full service event planning and styling company. Most typically we work an event in its entirety from conception to completion ; however, we are also for hire for specific elements and enhancements. Our most popular, what we have become known for locally, are our dessert tables and candy buffets. We think our work is distinctive in that we are extremely detail oriented, from the linen to the lining on a dish, down to a piece of candy. Our displays are clean and minimal, entirely color coordinated or completely thematic. Each is personalized, unique unto itself, and is exhibited in such a way that each presents itself as a piece of décor within the event space. Most clients opt to showcase these tables throughout their event, though typically they are dessert features. These displays are whimsy and fun and we are absolutely crazy about doing them.

Our thought process and creative way is organic in that we rarely have to think and seek out an idea or a vision. Finding inspiration in a random object is not unusual for us. We have devised an entire party from a simple teacup, a glamourous celebration from a piece of vintage clothing. It’s amazing what catches our eyes when we are not even looking. The opportunities and ideas are endless. To see how an inspiration translates into an event space is always so enthralling to us.

KliK Parties is our brand. We are the only two minds behind it. Our hands are in every part of the planning and execution of each and every one of our events. We find there is something special about a “mom and pop” business. Every detail is tended to personally by us. We are small in size and though we are growing continually, our goal is to always function as a small business. It’s more personal and intimate that way, it’s simply our vision coming to fruition. That is what we think sets us apart and what we are most proud of.

What has been the proudest moment of your career so far?
We have had many proud moments since the beginning of KliK. When we set out to start KliK, we sat down to devise a business plan and set long and short term goals. One of our initial objectives as event planners was to ensure that our clients endure zero stress throughout the entire planning process, and especially, at the time of the actual event. For example, planning a wedding can be extremely emotional, stressful, and overwhelming for those involved on a personal level. Having been there ourselves as brides, we both clearly remember the feeling of pressure and anxiety in that each wedding day was expected to be the single most monumental day in our lives. Keeping that in mind, it was after a wedding we had done early on, when the bride approached us, overcome with emotion, and said, “thank you for making this day the single most perfect day of my life”. It was that small moment that made us most proud. In that moment, we knew we were doing it right, that we were in the business.

Equally as proud were we when a very prominent event planner in our world, one we have always greatly admired, followed, and taken inspiration from, called upon KliK to design and produce a dessert bar at a high profile affair they were masterminding. The opportunity to work with one of the best in the industry (now multiple times) has and continues to be undoubtedly some of the proudest moments for us as well.

Truthfully, at the completion of each job is a proud moment for us. There are so many moving parts when planning and executing an event. When they all come together smoothly coupled with your vision successfully brought to life and happy clients that is the most gratifying feeling you can’t help to feel proud!
