Today we’d like to introduce you to Meredith Hunter.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Absolutely! My story started back when I was just seven years old and my brother made me a cardboard camera so that I could be “cool” like him. I would take it everywhere with me and draw the “photographs” when I got home. Flash forward to high school where I was head of the yearbook and dubbed “the paparazzi” by my fellow classmates, I really started to realize my passion for photography. My camera had already become a limb to me so I had it with me at my cousin’s wedding in 2004 and absolutely loved snapping photos of her wedding day.
Shortly after college my camera broke and with an entry level position at a bank, I didn’t have the money to fix it. Several years later my family all pitched in to buy me a new camera and shortly after another cousin asked me to photograph his wedding. I flew down to Mississippi with all of my gear in hand, nervous as heck (and definitely some tears when my flight was delayed until the evening rather than the morning) but I did my best and showcased my work. That one wedding lead to nine the following year and thirty every year after!
Please tell us about your art.
I am a wedding photographer for the sweet and giddy couple in love. I have a passion for telling their love story in beautiful light and photographs and my reasoning all stems from my parents. They have that fairy tale once in a life time love that started when they were just 14 and 15 and I had always aspired to that. My mom and dad have been married for 45 years and their photos have stood the test of time. I strive to do the same and give my clients photos that will last a lifetime and beyond.
We often hear from artists that being an artist can be lonely. Any advice for those looking to connect with other artists?
I can definitely relate to that. I work from home with no coworkers so it can absolutely be lonely. My best advice for connecting with others is finding an in person meet up group that shares similar interests to you! For me it has been the local Rising Tide Society, a group that preaches that a rising tide raises all ships and that we learn more from one another with a community over competition outlook. I am head of the South Shore/Upper Cape Chapter and we meet on Tuesdays about once a month! This group has connected me to so many other creative entrepreneurs in the wedding industry and I absolutely love it.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
You can find me at my website, www.meredithjanephoto.com, Instagram as @meredithjanephoto or Facebook as @meredithjanephotographyboston. It sounds silly, but the best way to support my work is to give a little “like” or “follow” and if you REALLY love something, a “share”!
