Meet Judi Neu of Music Management in Belmont

Today we’d like to introduce you to Judi Neu.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Judi. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was the president of the New School of Music in Cambridge. Friends and colleagues frequently asked me about providing music for their parties. The director of the school suggested that I start a company that specialized in booking music for special events. I became informed about the legal aspects of founding a company and when that was completed I was up and running. I was introduced to the Director of Special Events at the Museum of Fine Arts who began calling me to pair music with the museum’s opening exhibits, and she eventually gave me the title of Director of Music for Special Events. Shortly after this, I met my former business partner, Bert Seager, who was playing the piano at the Four Seasons Hotel in the Bristol Lounge. He was given the title of Director of Entertainment at the hotel. We merged our companies and talents and were very lucky to have the Museum of Fine Arts and the Four Seasons Hotel as our flagship clients. From there, we built our company hotel by hotel, with event planners, historic houses, colleges, hospitals, Fenway Park and various other museums and large institutions. Today, with my business partners, Stuart Camiel and Vanessa Holroyd, we continue to grow our business. Our roster includes award-winning dance bands, disc jockeys, vocalists, classical, jazz and world music ensembles, exceptional dancers and other performance artists. We also have a long history of managing appearances by national acts, celebrity speakers and auctioneers for private parties and corporate events. Our professional team works together with our clients to perfectly match the most appropriate music for their events.

Choosing Music Management means access to a roster of professional musicians who have been screened for talent, personality and reliability. It means working with a friendly and knowledgeable sales staff who are always available to answer questions. Music Management is licensed and insured. Our reputation as a trusted music resource has been built on providing consistent, exemplary service for over 30 years. We feel that the music for an event should not only be about the final performance, but about the experience our clients have throughout the booking process.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Luckily it has been a relatively smooth road. I would say that the biggest struggle is sourcing a very obscure musical act for a last minute request. We are good at it and always accept the challenge.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I have had a run of good luck in both my life and business. I always tell people how lucky I am in owning a successful business, but they remind me that this isn’t just about luck, but rather a lot of hard work. Since I love people, networking is easy and fun for me. Personal relationships is what our business is built on.
