Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessie Clark.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Jessie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started my love for makeup in high school- I had awful skin and was looking for a quick resolution. It was a confidence booster and I kept looking for new products that would help better than the others. When I was graduating from high school I knew I didn’t want to go to college but I wanted an education.
I looked into cosmetology and esthetics and immediately knew I wanted to be an esthetician. I went to Catherine Hinds for 600 hours and it was one of the best decisions I’ve made. I met the best people who I am still friends with now and learned how to properly care for my skin.
Most importantly, I have the knowledge to help other people care for their skin. This all ties into my love for makeup because having a good canvas helps whatever you apply on top look better. After school I worked a few different jobs, then I got my dream job at Mac Cosmetics as a freelancer. I worked hard until I got an offer to work part-time, which is where I am now.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It wasn’t always easy, I got discouraged a lot because my skin wasn’t always cooperating and I would break out a lot in esthetic school. My skin now is way better and makes all of it worth it. I know it doesn’t seem like a big deal but it ties into personal confidence. I also got discouraged job hunting because I applied for A LOT of jobs and went on quite a few interviews with nothing back. But it led me to work at Mac so I believe it all happened for a reason.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Makeup by Jessie Clark – what should we know?
So I am a freelancer, I do all sorts of makeup. Wedding is really big for me, I love doing them because there is nothing better than getting beautiful people ready for a beautiful day. I do proms and special occasions as well, which I also love to do. I have been trying to get into more photoshoot work for models which is really cool as well. I think the thing that sets me apart from others is that I really work with a person’s needs vs doing what I think will look good. I always like to make sure my client feels comfortable and confident.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I think the most important quality to have to be successful is to stay true to who you are and remain humble no matter where you go in life. People will always relate more to someone who stays true to their roots than to someone who thinks they are better than you because they got a certain opportunity.
