Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamaal Siddiqui.
Jamaal, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’d like to believe my journey to where I am today started way before I could even walk. My parents exposed me to the world of renovations back when they bought their first house after I was born. They took on the huge task of raising a family of 5 while renovating a 1927 colonial.
My father and older brother started to take on renovations projects while I was their glorified water boy. But that did not stop me from learning the trade. I was influenced to look into architecture electives right from high school. From the very first day in class and using the large wooden T-square I knew this was my calling.
I got accepted to Boston Architecture College (BAC) where I got my bachelors in architecture. Every studio I took was a new learning curve for me. I was seasoned to approach architecture not as a simple math problem but as a riddle. A riddle with many parts that had to be solved before achieving the final answer. This method led me to winning the Degree Project Award in my final year.
With all the creativity tools acquired from the BAC I set out to learn the technical side of architecture. My mentors during my time at different firms in the greater Boston Area taught me the skills needed to carry out an entire project from preliminary design to construction phase. But my business management skills came from my part time job at my uncle’s supermarket. My uncle also being an entrepreneur had many lessons for me such as customer relations and more importantly, dedication to one’s dreams.
My passion for architecture and drive to make something out of nothing led me to finding Yusra Design. A dream where I can practice my passion while providing to others.
Has it been a smooth road?
Essentially getting the word out about our company across the many communities has been daunting. But with the guidance and help of other entrepreneurs, mentors, family, and friends it’s definitely taken a step forward in the right direction. We just hope to keep climbing the ladder of success while helping others along the way.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Yusra Design story. Tell us more about the business.
Through design we provide Yusra. That is the foundation we built our company upon. Yusra, by definition means a feeling of reassurance and relaxation following release from anxiety or distress. The world of design and construction can be a very hectic and stressful environment and we decided that we wanted to alleviate that from our clients, since most of them already have so much to deal with.
Each commission brings with it a unique set of issues and specific requirements that form the parameters of our design vision and influence our creative direction. The result: customized planning, interior design, architectural solutions and construction methods that are innovative, timeless, functional and beautiful.
Yusra Design’s projects range from academic, commercial, residential, mixed-use development, and religious sanctuaries. Clients come to us for our real estate savvy, our ability to provide strategic design services in a broad number of project types and styles, and our skill in blending high quality planning and architecture with practical goals of building performance, budget and schedule.
I think what makes me most proud about our company is that we are always attempting to look out for our client’s best interests. .Knowing that projects can be a stressful we make it our utmost important goal that we take the stress away from our clients and provide them with Yusra. And that’s what sets us apart from others.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I really believe there will be a big push towards affordable housing. Not just in the sense of providing houses at a lower cost but overall bringing the cost of construction down by 3D printing structures. At least for the smaller scaled projects.
