Today we’d like to introduce you to Heidi Messina.
Heidi, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have worked in high end, global fashion for about 25 years. I am now 44 years old, and over these years have been a women’s buyer in NY and Paris. I as a result have intimate relationships with the hottest and most exclusive women’s designers in the world!
At the same time, I LOVE and cultivate relationships with my customers. I sell in my own intimate way. I am deeply personal. My reward is in women recounting partners, friends, and associates noticing and LOVING what they wear. I do not ever sell something for the sake of it. In my opinion, that is small, and short sited. Trust, confidence, and truth are my ethics!
After years of soaking up all things fashion — design, business, ethics, style, and MOST importantly relationships. This past summer I launched my own business! I Represent and Promote emerging global designers, I am a stylist, and recently have jumped head first into design myself!
Because my connection is Personal, I work with Women! I do not respond to spreadsheets or categories on a page. I design pieces made completely by hand, and so varied in style. Each look and piece is made with a specific woman in mind.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My career has been exciting, turbulent, and a tremendous challenge. Every obstacle thankfully ~ lead me to where I am today.

My reputation and specialty is personal connection. I look at every woman as her own unique individual. I connect with her style, personality, life, desires and insecurities. I never dress two women the same way, because no two people are the same.
Women come to me, because I get them, and would rather under-sell then sell her the wrong thing. I believe that trends are not for everyone. I once worked for someone who would directly say she did not care who it was, their body type, or personal style of the customer was. She just wanted the look/trend sold. I resent this in the fashion industry. For me, fashion is about making women feel beautiful, sexy, confident and strong! That never comes from being a fashion slave/victim, it comes from a sense of self!
My designs are one-of-a-kind and range tremendously in style. I always create with a particular person in mind! This does not mean it is FOR them, but they are the inspiration that moves me.
In addition to my personal designs, I LOVE the designers I work with! I believe that women and for that matter, people, in general, need to build up and support each other. – there are just too many women tearing each other down.
Designers are a rare breed…. they must create something unique, that touches the customer and motivates her to buy. They then need to sell their product to retailers, produce it, rely on other vendors for fabric, hardware, etc, ship the order, hope the carrier gets it there intact, and best of all – hope they get paid.
I respect and admire those who have the guts to pursue their passion as designers. I make it a fundamental part of my relationship to support, encourage, and give honest, caring feedback to the designers I represent.
