Meet Evan DeLaney of Bulfinch Boston Realty in Back Bay

Today we’d like to introduce you to Evan DeLaney.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Evan . So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I first began with Bulfinch Boston Realty working as a rental agent in 2010 after finishing business school. I was there for two and a half years before my career took me to NYC where I worked for a chef and entrepreneur. While this was a rewarding and challenging experience, working tirelessly to help someone else grow their business wasn’t something I could stand doing for long. When the opportunity came to partner with Bulfinch again in 2016, I jumped at the chance as the company was expanding and the Boston Real Estate market was booming. I took a position as Director of Leasing and assumed a role on the management team.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road but when you decide to work for yourself and grow a business you also need to decide what level of uncertainty you’re comfortable with. I was giving up a steady corporate paycheck to work in a 100% commission based field. This was scary because you’re not guaranteed to earn money each week and you’re competing against so many established brokers in the city who have established track records. The challenge as a newer agent is to gain recognition and effectively communicate what sets you apart from the rest of the pack. You need to constantly be informed and educating yourself on the different neighborhoods so you’re ready for any opportunity. Being successful in sales requires a “no fear” attitude which might not be there every day but if you focus on a long term goal and have an unwavering work ethic, your business will fall into place.

Please tell us about Bulfinch Boston Realty.
Bulfinch Boston Realty has been a Newbury Street staple since 1985. We do a large volume of leases throughout the city and benefit from a large extensive landlord database most offices aren’t able to compete with. On the sales front, we’re predominantly residential and will do a handful of commercial sales and leases throughout the year. We’re known for our service to our clients and for having a hospitality driven mindset to ensure the process of purchasing, selling or renting real estate is smooth and hassle free. I’m most proud of the leasing team we’re building as it’s increased our volume and ability to attract new owners. Our agents are diligent, dedicated and excited to work here everyday which makes for an incredibly supportive and rewarding environment.
