Meet Emily Reichert of Greentown Labs in Somerville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Reichert.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Emily. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started my career at Arthur D. Little as a Ph.D. scientist and progressed into R&D, business development and general management roles. Prior to Greentown Labs, I was the Director of Business Operations at the Warner Babcock Institute for Green Chemistry where I helped grow the angel-funded startup into a sustainable contract R&D business with a mission to minimize environmental impact of chemical products. I also served as a MIT Sloan Fellow in Innovation and Global Leadership as well as a Venture Labs Fellow at Flagship Ventures, a Boston-based Venture Capital firm.

I joined Greentown Labs in 2013 as the incubators first employee and first CEO. Since then, I’ve led the growth of Greentown Labs into the largest cleantech startup incubator in the United States.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Greentown Labs – what should we know?
We’re a community of bold and passionate entrepreneurs creating energy technologies that transform the way we live, work, and play. At Greentown Labs, we deeply believe in the impact that innovative clean technologies will have on the world, and we know the relentless human energy of a few scientists, engineers and business people can make a big difference. We know because we see it every day at Greentown Labs.

We were founded out of necessity in 2011 by four recent MIT graduates who need to find affordable lab and office space to build their cleantech startups. The startup founders realized the value of a like-minded community of entrepreneurs, and they sensed they weren’t alone in their need for low-cost, urban prototyping and office space. To continue their efforts and respond to the increasing demand from other startups with similar needs, Greentown Labs was born.

Today, more than 50 cleantech companies comprise the Greentown Labs community, making it the largest clean technology incubator in the United States. These startups are building and commercializing breakthrough solutions for renewable power generation, sustainable transportation, energy efficiency, battery storage, industrial waste recycling, water conservation and more. Explore our Members page to learn more about the cutting-edge technologies under development in our lab.

We’ve supported more than 120 companies since our founding and believe we’re unique in a variety of capacities: we’re hardware focused, we do not take equity in any of our members, and we’re community driven.
