Meet Emily Gardner

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Gardner.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I grew up in a very, very small town outside of Taunton, Massachusetts. It’s very peaceful and full of wildlife while being close to the water. I never thought it would influence my work.

I started photography when I was in middle school but never thought of it as a profession until high school. I wanted to see my photos in magazine or on album covers. I started off by mostly taking pictures of nature and experimenting with double exposures. After college, I started shooting with my friends and practicing my portrait work while also shooting concerts for publications. Instagram became an outlet for me and after I started posting my work there, I became more involved with the art community in New England and worked on my photography style.

Please tell us about your art.
I am a music and fashion photographer mainly, but I also shoot weddings, engagements, and other events. I want my images to be edgy and moody but still have a light and airy feel to them. I’ve always had conflicting styles, light and dark, but I like to try to combine them in my work. I take inspiration from fashion magazines and how music makes us feel. That’s why combining the two subjects made a lot of sense to me.

Do you have any advice for other artists? Any lessons you wished you learned earlier?
Take critiques for what they are and never let anyone discourage you from doing what you want to do! Art school made me feel like I could never break into fashion or music but I’m doing exactly that. If you’re passionate and willing to learn, then you can accomplish anything.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
I post on Instagram under @emilygardnerx and I have a website, as well (egardnerart.com).

I’m always looking to collaborate and shoot. I’m also here to help with any questions or critiques!
