Meet Elizabeth Hitchcock of Bookery Manchester

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Hitchcock.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Elizabeth. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
A dream becomes reality– For years my husband and I have appreciated the Manchester Scene of food and beverage but wanted more. We dreamed about cafes and bookstores.

Then we met Liz, Liz Cipriano, and between our dreams and operational chops we knew we could build the right bookstore for our artsy, edgy, tech community.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We’re still trying to get our feet under ourselves as we opened a little under 5 months ago– however, as with any new business we’ve hit hiccups offering a food service and doing inventory for a revolving stock.

As we continue to learn and adapt it all comes down to every business being a people business, and we still have more learning to do in that department.

Please tell us about Bookery Manchester.
Bookery Manchester is an independent bookstore in Downtown Manchester, NH. With an edgy, techy, artsy community backing us, our special spaces are used by all.

In addition to books, we’ve got a conference room, meeting space, a range of events, and a cafe serving drinks, snacks, and light meals.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My elementary school librarian had a large felt book that held the book of the day– it was always magical when she brought out Mr. Book. We hope to have whimsical, memorable experiences like that for all children (young and old).
