Today we’d like to introduce you to DJ DCaso (Darryl David).
DJ DCaso, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I never thought I would ever be a DJ. I came to MA from NY for college and in my junior year, started experimenting with DJing. From dorm parties straight to the big stage and within that year, I was given the opportunity to open for PVD’s Jon Hope, the Bravehearts & Nas at Brandeis University in 08′. This ultimately fueled my passion and lead to me pursuing the many facets of DJing.
Fast forward, a few HS & college proms, Boston bars & clubs later; I met Big Walt who would ultimately introduce me to IHeartRadios DJ PupDawg. I went from shadowing, to setting up events, to opening for DJ PupDawg & ultimately was given my first syndicated opportunity November of 2014.
One year later, after almost losing my life in a car accident and re-evaluating the concept of happiness, I left my position at Brandeis University. I realized that traditional avenues of wealth would never make me happy and that true happiness does not have a direct correlation to financial gain.
With this new motivation, I fully immersed myself into music without interruption or 5 am wake up calls for my professional responsibilities & never turned back. I am a firm believer that a jack of all trades is a master of none and that to fully explore your truest abilities that you must be fully immersed in whatever you are pursuing.
Because of that ideology, I have been on multiple tours, traveled internationally for music and have been blessed to occupy rooms with some of the industries most influential personalities. DJing has been my pursuit of happiness and has opened doors/provided opportunities for me to further improve my life as well as potentially impacting others.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Along with waiting on delayed checks, couch hopping, and many days sleeping in my vehicle; the passing of my mother was the most difficult experience of my life. She moved on at the end of ’16 and that drove me into a deep depression. Mustering the motivation that kept me afloat became more difficult daily & without a few stern voices of reason, I wholeheartedly was prepared to give up. I slowly alienated myself from people, stopped replying to emails and messages as well as turning down promising opportunities.
This was problematic, as the livelihood of a professional DJ strongly depends on connections & being in the public eye (out of sight, out of mind).
Although this was a major struggle, it also became my fire. Through the words of loved ones & learning of my mother’s deeds, these past few months have been focused on rebuilding. I’ve been moving forward, using my connections & knowledgebase, to empower youth & professionals alike, while seeking more exclusive opportunities for myself.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
“Whether performing or giving back, DJ DCaso aims to make every event impactful and uniquely memorable.”
I am a Radio, Tour, & International DJ, with a very diverse musical portfolio and a strong background in mentorship & education. I strongly believe in the idea of paying it forward and using my time outside of personal advancement to teach youth how to pursue & monetize their talents.
Most DJs are solely in this business for the stardom, while I’ve been dedicated to using my access to continue to expand my reach and network to be in a truly impactful place. Djing is a glorified hobby to many, where I believe, this is a calculated step to really achieve influence.
As exciting as the entertainment business is, I believe that my continuous role in the community helps make me stand above the rest. I have previously used my connections to assist Bel Biv DeVoe in hosting a free hurricane relief concert. I have also teamed up with former Red Sox – David Ortiz in DR – to raise awareness and funds to assist with pediatric health care both in MA & DR. Along with these, I formerly taught DJing to Boston tech students, where all equipment was provided at no cost to the student body.
Additionally, with the assistance of the MuseumTVs creator Noble, ‘The Miners Club’ was created as a platform to bridge the gap between indie artist and industry influencers. Monthly, we invite a well-connected individual to talk to artists in the community to deliver industry secrets and give valuable advice.
What truly sets me apart is that I want my impact to be felt on & off the stage.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
It’s hard to put into words what I have planned for the future. The life of a DJ is one of chance and exploration. We are able to carve our own paths, but if I had to put it into words, Utter Pure Happiness.
I definitely have a few goals that I need to achieve within the next 5 years. Firstly, establishing four-five steady streams of income as to make sure any opportunity I take from that day is purely based off of enjoyment/empowerment and not solely based on making sure the pure necessities are taken care of.
Secondly, I want to go on an international tour. I love the fact that DJing has already taken me so many places, but I am ready to touch down in larger arenas where I don’t understand the dialect but everyone knows the words to the songs I’m spinning.
Thirdly, increasing my network in order to be beneficial to others net worth. I want to help bridge the gap between peoples dreams and realistically achieving those goals. In order to do that, I need to keep increasing my musical reach & celebrity, as far as spinning in more states & countries. I strongly believe that this is my way of honoring my mothers legacy of missionary work but I need to continue doing the work.

He IS the greatest DJ period. A student of the art and a Jedi Master amongst pupils of the profession. His skill sets are only matched by his humility and integrity. So humble is he, that he didn’t mention the work he’s done with the Home For Little Wanderers and many other communities and organizations.
