Today we’d like to introduce you to Claudio Eshun.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
It all started in the summer of 2012. Back in my sophomore year of high school, I bought my first camera because a group of local Worcester photographers inspired me. They were known as Rawe Quality. I started using my Fujifilm point and shoot camera with landscape sceneries, various objects, and people. My first camera was mainly used to experiment my camera’s full potential as well as get familiar with photography. Worcester, MA, where I currently live, is a very diverse city full of various cultures and good vibes. The city’s diverse culture narrowed my interests in urban, fashion, and portrait photography.
By 2014 I upgraded to a Canon DSLR camera. I ended up buying a Canon T5i from Amazon. BEST INVESTMENT EVERRRRR! Although learning manual mode was a bit confusing at first thanks to Youtube and guidance from local photographers such as Emmanuel Appiah I was able to fully understand aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. Since then I shot friends, family members, strangers, events, etc. I had enough support to learn and expand in my craft that by 2015 I began offering my photographic services and made my own website showcasing my work.
Thanks to God, my family, friends, and clients I was able to get to where I am today. Since I bought my Canon T5i I’ve simply been perfecting my skills by constantly critiquing myself as well as asking other photographers for their opinions. With that being said, being consistent and authentic has been the drive of my photography business. My work is at the level it is today because of my strong work ethic, abstract thinking, and attention to detail. I have this urge to constantly improve which is why people like my services, work, and me.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
As a creative individual who’s constantly thinking of new projects, ideas, and themes it is always a struggle, especially when you are having a creative block with no inspiration or motivation to push you forward. On top of that, it can be finically difficult, especially when starting out. For example buying equipment, keeping up with bills, and attempting to book photo shoots. My hardest obstacles so far have been lighting issues for studio photography as well as post editing my pictures in Adobe Photoshop.
I recently bought a strobe light and a reflector to solve my lighting issue. As for Photoshop, I’m working on it. I need to have the software not constantly shut down on me. There have been multiple times I didn’t save my work on time and lost all the edits done to a picture. For example, with beauty shots, I take about 15-25 minutes per edit. Imagine not saving time and having to start over?! Frustrating!!!
We’d love to hear more about your business.
As an intellectual African man, raised in America I have a goal to embrace the Afrocentric culture, share hope, and individuality through people, fashion, and my images. Claudio Eshun photography focuses on urban, fashion, portrait, and beauty-themed photo shoots. I retouch my pictures fairly well and as a result of that, I get an advantage in receiving a greater exposure leading to potential clients, new followers, and collaborations with other local creatives. Ultimately, I aim to take, edit, and post nice, crisp, lifestyle pictures with a message to convey.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up I was a curious, adventurous, shy, goofy kid. I enjoyed being outside and exploring the world around. I had a hard time making friends because I was shy and awkward. However, when I made friends I was comfortable enough to be goofy. Other than that I enjoyed my own presence. When I was a kid, I wanted to first be a Red power ranger because he was the leader of the group and saved the world by fighting villains.
Soon after that, I wanted to be a cop, but that changed to a surgeon because I wanted to use my hands and explore the human body. Ultimately, as a young African boy living in Italy then relocating to Worcester, MA shaped how I see the world today. The struggles my family and I faced and overcoming really showed me anything is possible.
