Today we’d like to introduce you to Christopher Poirier-Kim.
Christopher, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
It was seven years ago when I first became a fitness professional. Funny thing about it was as much as I enjoyed exercise and fitness, I had never thought of pursuing a career in it, it kind of just randomly happened.
I was always considered the smallest kid in school growing up and for years, I had always wanted to gain muscle and be strong. Another friend of mine at the time saw me go through my own body transformation and asked if I had ever thought of being a personal trainer and the rest is history. Fortunately, my interests in psychology and business can also apply to this as well.
Growing up, I had done martial arts and competed in Tae Kwon Do. Basketball was probably my first love as far as athletics. However, as a child, I had watched my father develop diabetes and years later, my mother. As an adopted child, I may not share the same health history and genetics as my parents but this, at a young age made me aware of health and wellness.
As I matured, this became a foundation of what I wanted to do for a living. Coaching and helping people improve their health and lifestyles through educating them in exercise and nutrition is one of my biggest passions. The more I learn about this, the more exciting it is for me.
Knowledge is only potential power but with the proper action, it can create a huge impact. When it comes to this, that’s what it’s all about, the ability to create a positive influence.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
In regards to my profession, there were typical struggles one could expect. There were times, I wanted to stop, there were moments where I didn’t have the proper knowledge and felt I failed my clients. Many of the obstacles that have presented themselves only seemed larger than they were because of my lack of experience.
This is were I learned a pivotal life lesson, which was that every failure is really a lesson that we can learn from to make ourselves better in the future.
Some of the largest obstacles in my life that I’ve encountered happened as a child. Through middle school, I was subjected to bullying and as I entered high school I was very self conscious about my body and had gone through a severe period of depression.
This was one of the most difficult challenges for me personally, in overcoming the negative body image I had developed of myself.
I can empathize with many people in this regard because it’s not something that just disappears one morning. It takes months, even years to build a positive image of yourself. But, it can happen and will happen for anyone with the patience to understand that most things we want take more time than we’d like to achieve but it’s our attitude about it that makes all the difference in change.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with CPK Fitness – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
As a personal trainer/nutrition coach, I can provide both exercise and nutrition services online or in person.
I specialize in helping busy people lose fat, build muscle and become stronger without having to restrict themselves so they can live with the highest and most fun quality of life possible. The only thing better than doing the things you love is feeling and looking your best doing those things you love.
I think I’m most known for training and competing in American Ninja Warrior. Thought most may not have an interest in training like that, I have a goal of making people in to fitness ninjas that can be prepared to make the healthy lifestyle choice for any situation.
I’m always most proud of my clients. Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to work with hundreds of people and through their changes, trust and friendship, I’m reminded why this is such a rewarding profession.
What sets me apart from others is probably my honesty. I’m not afraid to keep it real with people and I believe anyone I’ve ever worked with respects that. I won’t tell a person what they want to hear but what they need to hear because it’s all love at the end of the day.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Personally, right now, I’m looking forward to the next season of American Ninja Warrior.
I was selected 2 years ago to compete but couldn’t apply last year due to wrist surgery.
Since then, I’ve been healthy. I’ve been training non-stop to be prepared for this season, if I’m fortunate enough to be selected again.
Aside from this, I’m always working on providing new fitness content in the form of blogs, social media posts, videos, etc.
There’s a LOT of confusion and misinformation out there in regards to fitness and I hope to be able to provide value and educate people on what’s relevant to them.
