Meet Brandon Latham of ICON Hair Studio in South End

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Latham.

Brandon, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have been a professional hair stylist for 19 years. Under the recommendation of my mom actually I went to hair school back in 1998. Since then I have worked mostly in the Boston area excluding a brief stint in South beach Miami back in 2005-2007. I opened my second salon in 2007 on Newbury Street named Brandon Kieth Hair…after 5 years there I moved my business to the south end and have been here since. I tried working for another salon briefly but I am truly an entrepreneur at heart. In October 2016 I launched my latest studio….Icon. The things I enjoy mostly about owning a salon are the marketing/business building elements, leading the way with new techniques and styles of my own, I enjoy creating an atmosphere for my clients here at the studio. I’ve always felt the salon experience is so much more than the hair but the vibe as well. There is definitely a vibe at Icon.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The challenges I have found are only a few but big ones…..! I’d say as a small business owner there is typically, at least for me, a constant staffing struggle, its difficult getting good solid stylists. And when you do…keeping them happy! Hair stylists can be a pain in the ass! They fall into the artist category being a bit flakey and all over the place……the second I’d say is money management can be tricky at times…….Especially during slow months.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with ICON Hair Studio – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Icon hair studio is a full service hair salon……I pride myself on making those who come in to feel welcomed and comfortable and excited about their hair……there is so much pretentiousness in this industry and I really like to get away from that and create a friendly atmosphere. An espresso….some wine……good conversation…..no conversation…whatever works…..most of all….amazing hair…..I believe this really sets Icon apart from other salons. Oh and the amazing hair we do………there’s a lot of crap out there….not in here.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Right now my only goal is to continue growing the business and I am also looking to bring on another talented stylist.
