Today we’d like to introduce you to Crystal Vazquez, Owner of Crystal Vazquez and Company.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started my company after growing up with my own personal self-confidence struggles. When I was introduced to the beauty field I saw how a little time spent on yourself can really change how you feel from the inside out. It is the best feeling when a client looks in the mirror and sees an enhanced version of themselves. Even though I use very little product, that little product can sometimes bring them to tears because they have never felt good about the person looking back at them in the reflection of the mirror.
Has it been a smooth road?
I like to keep it real and say being an entrepreneur is far from easy. I struggled with time management, being able to shut off work to spend time with my family. I made the mistake like many small business owners of doing well and feeling like that means we have to grow out. It took us four years to realize that in the end, going back to our initial business plan was the best choice. It is okay to do really well and baseline that practice instead of feeling like there has to be a next move.
Trying to stay relevant with social media trends can also a struggle. Every time I feel like I have a good handle on it changes.
My advice would be to stay authentic, avoid comparing yourself to other like businesses, and just focus on delivering a product or service that you are proud of. It is perfectly okay to fall down, and know success is not measured by how much you make in a year but instead how much you have grown in that year.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Crystal Vazquez and Company – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We offer hair and makeup for production, commercial, and wedding services. We do not own a salon so we can focus our education on more appropriate subject matters.
I am most proud of the fact that I get the opportunity to work on amazing documentaries, meeting people that have faced struggles, achieved something amazing, or are just simply amazing. Every time we are on set we learn a different point of view on a hot topic. That has really helped us with our brides as well. We are able to connect with them because of our film work. And because of that we now have brides that book us before they even book their venue. It just feels good.
Often it feels as if the media, by and large, is only focused on the obstacles faced by women, but we feel it’s important to also look for the opportunities. In your view, are there opportunities that you see that women are particularly well positioned for?
I feel that women really have to pave their own way to an opportunity. But if anyone is cut out for that it IS a woman. By nature we tend to wear numerous hats, face many obstacles, so I think it is in our make to start a movement, create an opportunity, and plow through the naysayers.
