Today we’d like to introduce you to Kerley Bernard.
Kerley, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
As a child, I ALWAYS wanted to have my own clothing line! I started hand sewing purses out of old towels, in the 1st grade, for my friends. I didn’t started sewing with an actual sewing machine until I was 22! It was more than just a hobbit, it was my life long passion! I soon started to create custom-made pieces for friends and acquaintances. Shortly after, Envieux was birthed. Envieux is a brand that celebrates the women while promoting body confidence with a unique quality and modern edge. Once a woman wearing Envieux walks into a room, she automatically commands attention. Envieux took off and no my goals for it have exceeded what I ever dreamed of!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
When following your dream and passion, it will NEVER be an easy road. There have been times where I would be at my sewing machine, crying, and ready to give up because the piece I was working out did not come out how I anticipated. I am self-taught so a lot of the little important steps I skipped over. Also, people will secretly try to destroy your confidence! They will pick apart your pieces and try to bring the imperfections to the forefront, but that’s okay! Just continue to focus on YOU!
If you are just starting your journey, keep going as cliche as it sounds! You will suck, you will hate a piece you’ve created but follow your intuition and keep doing what you love! You will only get better with time!
what should we know about Envieux? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a designer for Women’s Wear. I try to cover all aspects of women’s fashion with a range in sizes! I am definitely still learning and growing as a brand but one thing I am most proud of is the feedback I receive from my clients and models! They love and feel so comfortable when they put a garment on! Takes their confidence to the next level and that is my main goal when creating my pieces! I design from the heart with nothing but good intentions behind it. Because of that Envieux has attracted nothing but positive vibes!
Do you have any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general? What has worked well for you?
One of my biggest issues was overcoming my introverted ways so networking at first was very hard for me at first! And when you’re shy, finding a mentor is so necessary because they guide you through a difficult process which helps lighten the load. Luckily for me, when it came to some networking, people and companies have reached out to me making it much easier to form business relationships. But I still don’t have a mentor to help me the behind the scenes business aspect of Envieux. The most difficult part. Foundation for a business is CRUCIAL, so finding genuine help is a necessity!
