Conversations with the Inspiring Ashley Roberts, Janelle Vellante and Brittany Roberts

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Roberts, Janelle Vellante, and Brittany Roberts.

Ashley, Janelle, and Brittany, please share your story with us.
We are Wick3d Sisters Candles, but before you ask, no we are not all 3 sisters. We are composed of two sisters and one best friend who came over for dinner one day and never left. With 15 years of friendship under our belt, we are as close to sisters as the real thing. Combined we are three creative, quirky and entrepreneurial minds. After a lot trial and error with other crafty hobbies, hula hoops, jewelry, baking and the list goes. A concrete idea was finally ignited after being dissatisfied with a lot of the mass-produced candles on the market. We decided to make clean-burning soy candles! We brainstormed, researched and executed all of our ideas until we had a great product. When our first holiday craft season came, WE WERE A HIT! We even shocked ourselves how many of our friends, family, and customers enjoy our product. From there, we just keep doing what we’re doing. We would all agree that the reason we have got this far is from teamwork!

Has it been a smooth road?
For us, the biggest struggle we face is that we have learned to compromise. We are three very strong and opinionated women. Sometimes, it is hard to get things accomplished when there are so many different ideas flowing. As much as this is our biggest struggle it is also our biggest strength because we are able to evaluate every situation with three separate perspectives. We always come to a resolution after much discussion One thing we learned really quickly is that compromise is key and that it is okay to not always agree. Learning that our own personal ideas may not be the best idea to move forward with, and that’s okay!

Another struggle for us has been time management. We all hold full-time jobs so sometimes it is hard to find time for the business. We struggled with time management into our second year because we didn’t take ourselves as seriously as we are! People really enjoy our product and there is a demand for it!

Our advice to other women out there is to work with people who share the same vision as you! When you find people who share the same vision ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Wick3d Sisters story. Tell us more about the business.
We specialize is soy candles. All of our candles are made in small batches and are hand-poured in Chelsea, Mass. We use 100% pure soy wax and a cotton wick to ensure a clean burn. We make an assortment of scents. All of our candles are scented with an essential oil blend and are phthalate free. We also offer flameless options like tart melts and diffusers. We are most proud of the teamwork that goes on behind our brand to produce our candles. It is really rewarding to see your ideas manifest into a product that people really enjoy. There is nothing greater than a repeat customer!

Who do you look up to? How have they inspired you?
We have really been an inspiration to each other. Each of us has been putting a great amount of effort into this business. The commitment and involvement to achieve our common goals are truly inspirational.
