Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Littlefield.
Heather, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
Ever since I was young, I loved grabbing a camera to take pictures or video. Of course this was back in the 90’s before the digital revolution. In 2003 I bought my first digital camera, the Fujifilm S5000. It was a whopping 3 megapixels, which was huge at that time. That same year I moved from Michigan to Beverly to live with my Dad and finish college. I majored in Video Production, and graduated from Fitchburg State College (now University) in 2007 and started my job at 7 News. Photography was still a hobby then, and in 2011 I purchased my first DSLR camera. I started building my portfolio and researching how to start my own business, which brings me to today. For the last 7 years I’ve been shooting weddings, portraits, and commercial work, both photo and video.
I never dreamed that my photography hobby would lead to a career but here I am, capturing special memories for a living and loving every minute of it! Running my own business is definitely no easy task, but it’s definitely worth it. I’ve never fit into the corporate or office setting, and never had a job where I truly felt like I belonged. Whenever I’m creating with a camera, I feel like I’m where I need to be. Happy clients are just the icing on the cake!
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
As a photographer, it’s easy to say that I create photos or images, but it’s a lot deeper than that. For many people, I’m creating memories. That single moment in time will be preserved forever. Whether it’s a wedding, portrait, or another milestone, someone’s history is being recorded. Even when I’m shooting landscapes, I’m still preserving that place at that time. That place may not be the same 100 years from now, but my image will live on.
The medium of photography has changed greatly over the years, but its importance stays the same.
I have recently become a hybrid photographer, using both digital and film. Digital photography is amazing, and we can do so much with it now. The possibilities are endless. But there’s something organic and beautiful about film that you can’t get with digital. Sometimes digital photography can to be too “perfect” or too many photographers are seeking perfection in their work, myself included. I’m my own worst critic most of the time. I find that the imperfections in film are what make it so beautiful. It also forces you to be a better photographer. Without a screen on the back to check your image, you have to get it right the first time.
How do you think about success, as an artist, and what do quality do you feel is most helpful?
I am successful because I get to do something that I love doing every day. I get to create, and I need to create to be happy. The best part is sharing my talent with my clients and even though I’m paid to work for them, seeing their emotions and reactions will always be priceless.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
