Meet Zhanna Drogobetsky of Casa Design Boston in South End

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zhanna Drogobetsky.

Zhanna, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
After graduating Northeastern University my parents presented me with keys to my own furniture showroom in Brookline (imported Italian designer furniture).  The showroom was in a basement location on busy Route 9 and we were given 2 windows at the upstairs rug store as our display to get people in. In the next 10 years we grew the showroom to 2 floor of the building and another showroom across the street for lighting.

In 2007 as the bubble burst, I understood that a model of large retail stores depending on walk in customers wasn’t working.  I started to look for a location in Boston that would allow us to reach design community with focus on selling to them (interior designers, architectures).

In 2008 Casa Design was opened in SOWA and then followed by Casa Outdoor showroom (Separate Outdoor Furniture showroom) and Molteni & C Flagship Store (Italian furniture, Closets and Kitchen). This year we are opening one more showroom dedicated to our contract business (Casa Contract) and we also are renovating all our existing showrooms with new designs and collections.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s been a great ride with few bumps on the road.  We have learned a lot and are still learning.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Casa Design Boston story. Tell us more about the business.
Our company sells international furnishings and lighting for residential and commercial projects. We are pleased to carry more than 150 world-renowned lines across four extraordinary showrooms: Casa Design, Casa Outdoor, Casa Contract and Molteni & C Boston flagship store.

Private homes, restaurants, offices, universities and public spaces throughout the Boston area and beyond feature Casa Design’s exquisite and distinctive offerings. And while our clients are primarily interior designers and architects, we also work with individual clients who aspire toward the extraordinary in their living spaces.

Casa Design is not just a furniture showroom, it is more like a curator or a library. We represent a lot of brands and products in so many different styles, finishes and colors. Our passionate team of design experts with knowledge, experience and enthusiasm helps clients to find exactly what they look for—whether they’re looking for interior or exterior furniture, contract furniture, indoor or outdoor lighting, kitchen, bath furnishings, rugs or accessories. I am super proud of my team and what we achieved together.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I think both a lot of hard work + some luck made my business successful.
