Meet Dr. Yuko Torigoe of Harmony PC in South End

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Yuko Torigoe.

Ever since she was 5-years-old, Dr. Torigoe dreamed of becoming a dentist when she was inspired by a visit to her local dentist in Urbana, Illinois. She fulfilled her lifelong dream when she graduated from the Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine in 2001. She, has practiced for 14 years at two dental clinics in Massachusetts and Illinois. In Massachusetts, she was a full-time Associate Dentist for 13 years at Chestnut Hill Dental, and she also practiced as a part-time Associate Dentist in the suburbs of Chicago where she learned all about how to approach dentistry from a holistic and biologic methodology from her colleague, Dr. Janet Stopka. Her love of Boston brought her back from Chicago in 2015 and she decided to open her practice—Harmony— in the South End. Harmony focuses on making biocompatible choices (such as mercury- and fluoride-free treatments) for our patients as well as educating patients so they can make informed decisions about their dental needs

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Opening the practice was a pretty smooth procedure because we had great references, referrals and contacts from industry professionals, friends and family. We researched and vetted all of our vendors thoroughly. The biggest struggle as we worked towards opening the practice was getting the inspections. There were several delays which threatened to impact our opening date but luckily, it all came together in the end and we opened our doors as scheduled.

Harmony PC – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Harmony is a biologic/holistic dental office in the South End of Boston. Our holistic approach to dentistry, as well as our focus on safely removing mercury fillings, being fluoride free and having IAOMT accredited and S.M.A.R.T. (Safe Mercury Amalgam Removal Technique) certified dentists, are what sets us apart from other dental clinics. We also take a different approach to the patient experience. Whether it’s offering them a hot cup of tea, providing them with warm neck pillows or dental chairs that give back massages, we try as best as we can to provide our patients with a spa-like experience. We are proud of the service we provide patients, the effort we put into creating an aesthetically-pleasing and welcoming office as well as our holistic approach.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to me is to be remembered as someone who helps to enrich people’s lives or made them feel better because of what I did or who I am as a person. If I can go to sleep feeling good about any positive impact I made to anybody I encountered that day, there is nothing that makes me feel more at peace at the end of the day.
