Today we’d like to introduce you to Wendy Pease.
The story of how Wendy became the owner of Rapport International is an interesting one. In 2003, she had a high profile position as Director of World Wide Marketing for a publicly traded, global pharmaceutical services company. Although she had earned the position after graduating from Tuck with her MBA, she found that she was unhappy with the corporate world.
She had a two-year-old son at home and was pregnant with her second child.
Her office hours were long and her job required travel away from her family. It was not the work-life balance that she desired.
While on maternity leave, she received a blessing in disguise – she was laid off from her company. As she contemplated her next move, she realized that she wanted to control her own destiny. She wanted to find a work/life balance that gave her the ability to spend more time with her family while at the same time offered her a challenging career.
When a friend suggested that she buy a business, an idea was born. After doing a couple of months of research and negotiations, she purchased Rapport International, one of the most trusted professional translation and interpretation companies in the industry. For 30 years, Rapport International has developed and maintained long-term relationships with clients guaranteeing consistency of the translations over time.
As President of Rapport International, this position is the culmination of all her prior experience. She majored in foreign service and spent years living abroad. She has excelled at sales training and has extensive sales experience.
She recognizes that she loves connecting people through networks and has a fondness for languages and cultures. She is passionate about her work and enjoys figuring out with clients the best ways to handle the translation process to ensure the highest quality project.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Growing a business reminds me of standing at the edge of a cliff and deciding whether to jump or not.
You may be high up, or there may be a big pool of water at the bottom. It could be a hard or soft landing.
As a business owner, I’m continually challenged on making the next leap.
The first risk was whether or not to buy Rapport International – the SBA adviser, a former accountant, encouraged me not to buy the company since it’s a business to business services company and had no hard assets. He didn’t find value in the training with the prior owner, the client list and revenue stream.
This combined with taking out a personal loan to close the deal seemed like the biggest risk.
But, each year there are other big decisions to make – when to add employees, when to invest on a big marketing program, whether to hire a sales force, developing technology that could go obsolete.
In addition, there is the work/life balance. I’m a single mom with 2 boys.
Maintaining focus on them, managing the house, growing the business and keeping a personal life can be challenging. Luckily with a support network and friends with other business owners helps.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Rapport International – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.

Still fully involved in growing the business. Changes in technology have brought about so many new options for streamline translation delivery.
Excited to be developing new technology specifically for marketing people trying to manage multilingual marketing sites and SEO.
Launching a big new product and service by the end of this year. It streamlines the request for translation, review process and loading of copy. Gives the companies to outsource the process and still depend on the quality translation and internal reviews that they want. Customized service by the client.
Continuing to look for other acquisitions to add to our team – expand client base and competencies.
