Today we’d like to introduce you to Wayne Paul.
Wayne, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started Old Colony Construction about ten years ago. I grew up in the construction industry, and spent many summers during school vacation building houses. About ten years I made the decision to go out on my own. The business took a little bit of work to get established. After a little bit of advertising and word of mouth references we finally started to get steady work. Then a few years ago it was as if a switch was thrown, where we started getting bigger and better jobs. Today we are now specializing in doing larger additions and full home remodels.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
We definitely had a rough start. We started after the recession. People weren’t spending money on home projects like they were. Then trying to get my name out was another struggle. We started off doing smaller jobs, and repair work. I found that people would assume that we only did smaller jobs and didn’t realize that we could tackle a large project.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Old Colony Construction story. Tell us more about the business.
Old Colony Construction specializes in larger remodel/additions projects. We also specialize in Colonial conversions. That’s where we turn a Ranch home or Cape style home and convert it to a Colonial style home.
I am most proud of being able to help our customers. We have been called upon more than once to help out a customer that hired a poor contractor and left them in a bad spot. We have taken over the project and finished it, giving them the product they wanted. Our goal is by the end of the project is to give our customer a quality product and hopefully turn their experiences into a positive one.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I think a little bit of luck is always a factor in business. Sometimes being in the right spot at the right time is what it takes.
