Today we’d like to introduce you to Vision tha Dreamer.
Vision, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I always liked writing poetry ever since the 4th grade. It was something that sort of came naturally for me. It wasn’t until the 5th grade was I was inspired to turn it into music; it clicked when I heard the Lupe Fiasco song “Show Goes On.” I remember hearing the song but also seeing and being inspired by the visuals to the video. To explain it in the shortest way possible, he basically was backstage getting ready to perform. Something about that seemed very intriguing, I knew that it was something I can do. Something I wanted to do. That’s when I started writing actual raps. I also did battle for a little too. I really sucked at first but got way better with time. It wasn’t until around the 6th grade that I got more into an artist like J. Cole, who really showed me about song structure and how I could write one. Once I got to high school, I was good enough to befriend and catch the eye of people I make music with today. I have one project out called I.on Vision, and a project on the way called Diary of a Trippy Kid.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
At first, I did really suck at rapping. It didn’t come very easily to me. I had to actually work at it and practice to become better believe it or not. I also wanted to make a group, but I never really found people who were as committed to music as I was until high school. And obviously, there are the doubts of ever making it musically and is making music even worth it. It wasn’t until I saw people believe in me, and really mess with the music. That I saw it is the thing I want to do for the rest of my life.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
The collective that I founded and am apart of is called 20/20. It’s a group of artist that all see the world differently and has their own take on it, expressing it mainly through music. We’re all Rappers/Producers, but soon, I want every kind of artist to join. It’s dope that was all committed to the craft of what we do and really sees the vision in all of what we do and the music we make. We’re all different too, thats what makes so interesting. We bring something to table that most might have but can bring it out of one another.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was weird. Like back around the time were weird wasn’t the norm. Truly weird. I was anti-social but always found myself making friends. Still, it was hard trying fit in with everyone, because sometimes, I didn’t in class, I rarely paid attention because I would always drift off and daydream (hence, the rap name). I had the greatest sense of imagination, but I wasn’t too good at visual art. But I could definitely write what I was thinking down on paper.
