Meet Vincent Famador of Velocity Dance Company in Quincy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vincent Famador.

Vincent, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was a Senior Executive who ran the Sales and Marketing division throughout the United States. Although successful, I was not passionate and enjoying my job. I worked so many hours, grew the company each year, but saw no return. I always wanted to start my own business that I was passionate about but did not know which route to take. I met a dance instructor, who later became my wife. It re-awaken my love of dance and the arts as I was in martial arts and dance my whole life. I noticed my wife working in the dance industry and how students loved her. With all the hard work she put in, she too was not truly appreciated. I then came up with an idea for the both of us to start our own Dance Company. I had the experience in running a business and a passion for dance, and my wife being a dancer, nothing made more sense! Literally, our marriage was a perfect fit! We opened our business in 2009 and immediately became successful! Each year our studio grew in staggering numbers. With so many dance companies in the Boston and South Shore area, we are rapidly rising to the top. We have worked with big names such as Mandy Moore a four time Emmy nominated choreographer from So You Think You Can Dance and Creative Producer for Dancing with the Stars. We were also selected to perform in front of 40,000 people during a half time show at the Russell Bowl.

With the studio success, I could not be happier. I’m living the dream that I always envision for myself. Now, having two young children, I’m able to be a hands on father, while going to a work place that I love! I love seeing the progression of my students and watching their hard work come to life on stage. Having the opportunity to see our students grow throughout the years is a privilege and a reward I was missing. Each year I am excited and eager to start new choreography and to utilize my creative abilities.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has definitely been a smooth road. There were a couple of challenges that I faced which was finding the most talented and qualified staff. It took some time but we were able to put together an amazing team. At times I find it hard to delegate certain tasks to our staff because I’m used to doing everything myself. I’ve learned to trust my team, step back, and allow them to grow.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Velocity Dance Company story. Tell us more about the business.
My business Velocity Dance Company teaches ballet, Tap, Jazz, Contemporary, Modern, Musical Theatre, and Hip Hop to pre-school through adults. I teach dance, musical theatre, and run the daily business. I build the brand and conduct the marketing strategies for the business. We are known for cutting edge choreography and fresh new ideas. We are known for a staff who not only teaches but also performs on stage as well! We always believe to showcase our instructors to show they are the best in what they do. Most dance companies have only a competition teams. We were the first dance studio in Quincy to start a performing group that gives back to the community by performing at schools, charity function, and professional events.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The dance industry has been growing in popularity and will continue to be bigger as the years go by. With shows such as Dance Moms, Dancing with the Stars, and So You Think You Can Dance, it has sparked the interest of millions of people. Not only children are interested in dance but now adults are too wanting to learn. With today’s health conscious society, more people have turned to dance for fitness to maintain a healthy life style for the body and mind.
