Today we’d like to introduce you to Vildan Ocalan.
Vildan, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have been a hairstylist for 15 years, living and working in Boston for the last 7. I was drawn to the craft for the opportunity to express myself creatively. The tactile element of doing hair is what initially drew me in; using my hands to create shapes, textures, and colors. What started off as an outlet to hone my skills as an artist turned into a lifelong career. I find it fulfilling to work with my clientele one on one to provide a service that helps them express their unique image. It is these relationships built on trust and time that I take great pride and find truly rewarding. Cut-Splice is a unique salon experience, a space with great energy and inspiring aesthetic. The work being produced is top notch. I am proud to be a part of their team.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I have never strayed from the path in my career, and I believe my dedication has paid off. I now work at Cut-Splice for a salon owner that I absolutely believe in. Grant Paquin has grown his independent business over the last four years and I feel privileged to be a part of that.
Please tell us about Cut-Splice.
The team at Cut-Splice is incredibly talented and professional. We are proud to be an independent business, built on reputation. We are in touch with what Bostonians are looking for in a salon experience, and we consistently deliver. We are currently expanding to include skincare at the salon. Cut-Splice is also committed to being a part of our community in Charlestown, regularly fundraising and supporting other local businesses.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Not a single thing.
