Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoria Demetri and Gutierres DeSouza.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Victoria and Gutierres. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
We never thought the first time we made guacamole 6 years ago that we would be embarking on this journey. We both did the “normal” thing, graduated from high school, straight to college, got our degrees and became a part of working society. Gutierres and I both knew we were destined for more than this. I graduated from Gateway Community College where I studied nutrition. I always knew I had a passion for food and I knew I had to do more than just work for someone else. I have always gotten compliments for my hard work ethic ever since I got her first job when I was 15 years old and I even went on to having 4 jobs at one time but for as long as I can remember I have always wanted to be my own boss. I met Gutierres when I was only 14 years old and have clicked ever since.
We work together not only as a couple but as business partners. Where Victoria lacks certain traits, Gutierres picks them up. When he can’t take it anymore, I pull him through it. This journey has been anything from easy but together we know we can take on anything that comes our way. We believe that food is your fuel. More people should be educated about food and after realizing we had such an amazing product on our hands, we knew we had to share it with the world. Besides the avocados, our ingredients come from local farm here in Connecticut. When you purchase from us, you’re not only supporting a local business but you’re also supporting our local farms. Since avocados aren’t grown here in Connecticut, we make sure to use only the best quality and ORGANIC avocados to make our special guacamole!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Running this business has not been a smooth road however it has given us both an opportunity to learn so much! When bumps come up, we have to find our way to work around it and make the best of any situation! We never actually stop working. We both were working full time when starting this business and staying up until 2 in the morning and waking up at 5 am to start our 9-5 jobs. It hasn’t been easy but worth every second when we hand that guacamole our customers and see the smile on their face or when we hear how our guacamole was the conversation piece at our customer’s birthday party.
Recently, we had one of our events we attend cancel due to weather. Only problem is it was cancelled after we made our guacamole! We could have given up due that inconvenience but we decided to remain positive and brainstorm on a solution to our problem. We decided to offer free delivery all weekend to customers to avoid losing our product. We made the best of the situation and even got to spend some quality time together as we delivered our guacamole!

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If we ever started over we would not change a thing. Every obstacle we have had, every almost breaking point, and every panic attack was well worth it when we hear that someone’s health is in better shape because they included our guacamole into their diet. Or when someone never has time to eat a healthy & nutritious meal for lunch or dinner but now we make their lives easier. Hearing all of those things remind us of why we started this in the first place and why we would do it over in a heartbeat. We love what we do and we love our customers.
