Meet Vani Sayeed of Vani Sayeed Studios in Newton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vani Sayeed.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I grew up in Hyderabad, India, a city rich in culture and history. My mother is a very artistic and creative person who created a beautiful environment for us. So between my external and personal milieu, I learned to value aesthetics from a young age. From there it was a natural progression for me to pursue an education and career in art and design. I chose to attend the Sir J.J. School of Art in Mumbai, where I earned a degree in Interior Design. I moved to the USA in 1998 and obtained an MFA in design from the University of Iowa. My husband and I then relocated to San Francisco, and after working for two design firms there, I opened my own business, working in both residential and commercial spaces.

My husband and I relocated to the Boston area after he was offered a fantastic opportunity here. Even though it was a hard move for me, it was the right decision for us as a family. It opened a different door and re-created myself on the east coast. Vani Sayeed Studios is a multi-discipline interior design firm providing turnkey solutions for interior design and artistic consultative services for a wide range of projects. I believe good design accommodates a certain degree of pragmatism: form, function, and beauty are intimately related. I strive to create compositions of spaces that are visually striking, inspiring and always comfortable!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I’ve been very fortunate! I love what I do, and cannot imagine any other career. It is never easy to start your own business – it requires vision and determination! But having fantastic clients, along with my supportive family has made my work both easier and more enjoyable.

I think one significant challenge has been building a team of suppliers and contractors in each geographic location. Moving to a new area, and creating those relationships requires a lot of work, and trial and error, but it is a key element of my success.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Vani Sayeed Studios – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Vani Sayeed Studios provides turnkey services for a full range of interior design projects, from studios to estates to commercial properties. With an extensive base of knowledge and resources, we create interior environments synergistic with client personalities. We approach each project with these core values – client focus, collaboration and attention to detail.

I am a visual artist along with being an interior designer. My design and artistic aesthetics are deeply influenced by my cross-cultural exposures and experiences. Having grown up in India, and lived all across the U.S., from California to the Midwest, and now the East Coast, I bring a really unique perspective to design. My love for art, architecture, and world travel has helped me develop a signature “global chic” style.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
The world is my oyster! I’m always looking to grow as a designer as well as an artist. Design-wise, I’d like to create a bespoke product line – I have some thoughts and ideas in motion. Hospitality and restaurant design are other avenues I’d like to grow into. To me, what’s important is always having an open mind to fresh and new ideas.
