Meet Valerie Harrison of Valerie Harrison Stylist in East Boston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Valerie Harrison.

Valerie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
It all started back in kindergarten. I witnessed my classmate cut her bangs off at the root, simply because she didn’t want them anymore. I remember thinking, “that’s not how it works, right!?” From then on, I have been infatuated with hair and everything about it. I learned how to braid at 12 years old and started doing updos before school dances for all my friends! At 17, a local salon had so much faith in me, they let me help out during prom season. My love for hair has only continued to grow. I attended Curry College for a degree in business management and entrepreneurship before I went to Beauty Creators Academy for hair! After college I started working weddings and now, I run a full time wedding business and also work part time in a salon. I’m bicoastal for both jobs, so I travel between Boston and Los Angeles to do what I love!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Honestly, my road has not been very bumpy. I have always had the same dream and I have always stuck to my path. Sometimes things hit low points and I often feel like I could be doing more. But I am happy with my progress and I can’t wait to see where else this career takes me.

Please tell us about Valerie Harrison Stylist.
I specialize in on site wedding hair and airbrush makeup. In salon, I specialize in color. I am most proud of sticking to my goals and accomplishing them at my own pace. I wouldn’t change anything. I think what sets me apart is how much I genuinely LOVE HAIR. When you sit in my chair, there is a 90% chance I care about your hair more, if not just as much, as you do. I was put on earth to do hair, no doubt about it,

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
A funny memory of mine was when I took my brunette Barbie with brown eyes, and my blonde Barbie with blue eyes and cut all their hair off and switched them, held with glue. It was such a disaster!! I just wanted the brown eyed Barbie to be a blonde.
