Meet Jason Cappadona of TRU Chocolate in Medford

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Cappadona.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Jason. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My father John and I started TRU Chocolate® because we knew that there was a big gap in what was offered for the All Natural / Organic Sector without the sugar! In fact, when we started 2008/2009 there were none around and still today only few just entering.

Our goal is and always will be to provide the cleanest healthiest option available at affordable prices to the consumer. We introduced a Healthy Snack line all covered in our 72% Dark Chocolate as a way to expose people to what we had and how tasty No Sugar Chocolate could be! We 1st started testing TRU Chocolate in 2016 at local Boston retailers like Wegmans, Roche Brothers, Showcase Cinemas and many more where we experience huge acceptance and consumer need.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has been a hurtle to explain to people what is replacing the sugar but as we move into 2017/18 the consumers are much more aware of artificial sweeteners and bad ingredients. Many people run when they hear sugar free because many sugar alternatives come with bad side effects or lingering after taste – None of which TRU Chocolate has including ZERO after taste. We tested our All Natural sweetener Xylitol for many years before we launched and knew we had a great sugar alternative and another super healthy ingredient that is dentist recommended! We have utilized social media / website and in store sampling to explain our product to the consumer.

TRU Chocolate – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
In today’s modern food production, the promotion of genetically modified foods with corn syrup and sugar laden products has become rampant. A bi-product of this is our desire to consume unhealthy and ultimately harmful snack products.
