Meet Trish Gormican d’Oliveira, CPA of Gormican, P.C. in Wellesley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Trish Gormican d’Oliveira, CPA.

Trish, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I believe my love of accounting started when I was only helping out my father with his business when I was in high school! I loved to be a part of the “busy” season with him and would copy client’s information at our copier, take phone calls and do clerical work around the office.

In college, I realized the opportunity I had to take over my father’s business in the future and decided to major in Accounting. I continued my education and obtained a Masters in Accounting and then knew I needed a lot of experience to be as skilled as my father, so I started my career at a Deloitte in auditing and then transitioned to Walter & Shuffain in taxation. Even though I worked for other bigger companies, I still worked part-time throughout the year for my father helping in his business.

Over the years, I slowly built up a client base of my own and knew that I was ready to transition into being part of the business full-time. I love specializing in personal income tax and small business tax as I really feel like I am helping the client out. Our business is not like a franchise practice where we just churn out return after return. We really spend the time to get to know our clients, their tax situation and ways to plan to get them the most benefit.

The best advice that my father gave me over the years has been to only service clients who you would have over to your house for dinner. That made me realize what type of client that I like to work with and type of relationship that I want to foster with each of my clients. I guess the advice has been my motto over the years and all of my clients have been referrals from current clients! I truly have built up an amazing practice because of it!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I do not think anything in life is a real smooth road, but that is the best part of learning and shaping your practice to how you want it to be. Some of the struggles along the way have been learning the ins and outs of the tax code. Each client’s tax situation is unique so I am always researching different questions! I would not necessarily call them struggles as once you have researched something, I always try to see if it will relate to any other clients and if I should share with them.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Gormican, P.C. – what should we know?
Gormican, P.C. is a professional service firm offering accounting, tax and consulting services to corporate and individual clients. The Firm is dedicated to providing high quality, responsive professional service.

Our services to businesses are focused not only to meet a client’s reporting, regulatory and banking requirements but also to add value to your business in terms of viability, profitability, and growth. For individuals, the focus is on personal wealth enhancement. We will assist you in: creating and keeping wealth throughout your life, maximizing your net estate and distributing that estate according to your wishes.

As a company, I am most proud of the fact that I am the second generation of the business. I believe that most of our clients have seen me behind the scenes helping out over the years, but it’s always a great feeling when a client reaches out to me directly now and has confidence in me just like they have with my father.

I believe that our strong connection with our clients and our genuine care for them and their situation sets us apart. We are not your typical accountants and can talk for hours on how to interpret the tax code for your situation. We do not use terms that you would not understand and make sure we walk you through all aspects of your tax returns before we file anything to ensure that you agree with it. We truly do take the time with each of our clients to provide exceptional service!

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Besides my father, who has been my mentor since childhood, my husband is probably my biggest supporter in my success. He has been my rock through finishing up my CPA exam and licensing requirements, to long hours throughout the busy season and always being understanding when my client meetings run over! He helps me balance out being a working mom and stress of everyday life!

I do not think I would be able to be as successful as I am without his endless support!
