Today we’d like to introduce you to Trevor Laliberte.
Trevor, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
After high school I went to Salem State working toward a degree in Business Management. I decided to start a landscape company using my father’s car and lawn mower. On many occasions my father would finish a 24 hour shift with the Everett Fire Department and come work with me right after his shift ended. Eventually I would leave Salem State and enroll at North Shore Community College to focus on a degree in Horticulture. A few years later I purchased my first truck, a Ford F150.
For the first time in my life I was enjoying school and invested in the courses. Professor Paul Harder in particular inspired me and I took many of his classes multiple times. In 2005, I became a Massachusetts Certified Arborist. In 2012 I became the Tree Warden for the City of Everett. In 2013, I became a member of the Urban Forest Strike Team Task Specialist, providing professional recovery services to communities following natural disasters across the United States. In 2015, I became a Registered Consulting Arborist allowing me to provide expert witness testimony in court and produce reports that are used in tree related disputes and litigation.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Things were not always smooth. Knowing when to walk away from bad ideas can be difficult. Expanding the business was another challenge. I am always trying to balance a full working schedule without taking on too many projects and running the risk of having the quality of work deteriorate. Everything has been trial and error. You have to learn each new job and what each new client wants.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the TDL Landscaping story. Tell us more about the business.
We specialize in:
• Landscape renovations.
• Structural and ornamental tree pruning.
• Perennial and annual flower designs.
• I am qualified in Tree Risk Assessment.
• I traveled to Canada to become well versed in Tree Appraisals.
• I am qualified in the Electrical Hazards Awareness Program.
We known for:
• Always being available.
• Flexibility.
• Getting the job done.
• Going above and beyond what we are asked to do.
• Being easy for clients to speak to and deal with.
• Being able to adapt. Sometimes you have a plan and it changes.
• Being able to resolve misunderstandings.
Our participation in charity work and giving back to the community I grew up in. I founded Eco Friendly Futures, a division of TDL Landscaping that promotes getting kids out of the classroom and nurturing an appreciation for the environment. We use the trucks and trailers to pick up and deliver gifts for Toys for Tots.
Each year we work with Marathon Daffodils planting and delivering daffodils along the Boston Marathon route in honor of the victims of the Marathon Bombing. We participate in Habitat P.L.U.S. by delivering Christmas cards that the students at the Madeline English School make for our veterans and donating socks, razors, gloves, etc.
We donate and deliver pumpkins for the students at Madeline English School to decorate at the Fall Festival. We work with Hildebrand Family Self-Help Center donating and delivering Thanksgiving dinners and Christmas gifts for children. We volunteer our time at Everett Veterans Memorial Stadium doing the plantings for Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day. We do deliveries of birthday parties to homeless children for Birthday Wishes. We help with the pickup and delivery of supplies for their annual Cake Walk.
What sets us apart from others is our 24 hour emergency tree service. We offer a 2-year warranty on plants. I have continued my education at the University of Massachusetts taking classes on Invasive Plant and Insect Management. We always attempt to be up to date with the newest techniques in the field.
Testimonials:
“Trevor has been our landscaper for four years at Parris Landing in the Navy Yard. Before TDL was hired, our ‘landscaping’ was narrowly defined as ‘lawn keeping.’ Now, our neighbors are giving us compliments daily.”
Richard Dickinson, Trustee
Parris Landing at the Navy Yard Condominiums
