Today we’d like to introduce you to Travis Gray.
Travis, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Guyana. My family moved here to Boston when I was 16 years old. The first high school I attended was Dorchester High and it was tough for me as I got bullied a lot for being different. Due to the bullying, I started to develop a lot of anger which lead to some fights. A teacher there told me since I like to fight so much to come down to his studio after school and he would show me some stuff. Little did I know that by taking him up on his offer and going to his studio after school that day, my whole life would change.
That day I was introduced to the art of Tae Kwon Do. Tae Kwon Do was a way for me to channel all of my energy and frustrations it became something I loved and was very passionate about, I did Tae Kwon Do actively for about 5 years. During those years I started going to the gym to get stronger because I have always been skinny and I wanted to bulk up and be entered into a higher weight class. During that time I found my second love gym and fitness. If I wasn’t doing Tae Kwon Do I was in the gym lifting weights and working out.
After some time friends and family started noticing how I was getting into better shape and asked if I could train them in the gym to help them get into shape as well. That was the beginning of my training days. After training some of my friends and family for a couple of years I realized that it was something I truly enjoyed doing and wanted to get better at. I soon began watching youtube videos, reading books, taking courses, and getting certified as a personal trainer. I was so eager to learn as much as I could to become the best trainer I could be.
One day I decided I wanted to start my own fitness brand that some people know today as Body Prime Fitness.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There has been some bumps on the road but through it all, I prevailed. The first challenge I faced was getting Body Prime Fitness out there and establishing my brand. I wanted people to see my training style and I wanted to prove that my methods and my style of training works.
Fitness is really big in Boston right now and you always want your craft to stand out from others. I stayed consistent with promotions, networking with different people, and trained anyone willing to entrust me with their fitness goals.
Another challenge I faced is helping my client know that they have to meet me half way. I get people who want to lose weight or tone their body but not willing to stay consistent during my program or not sticking to a good meal plan.
In order for my clients to see results, they must be consistent. I want my clients to reap the full benefits of my program but they have to be willing to put in the work. working out is only 20% of the battle and the remaining 80% is the nutrition.
Body Prime Fitness – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Body Prime Fitness is a workout an experience like no other. If you come to train with me you must come with energy, determination, and dedication. I will push your body to do things you did not think it could do. I will target different muscle groups and make you not only slim but stronger. My workouts are never the same I am constantly changing my training methods because I never want my clients to ever get used to a workout routine, I find it important to shock the body with the different movements.
I am always thinking of creative innovated ways to work out the body through high-intensity interval training, strength and conditioning, weight training, agility, cardio circuits, kickboxing, and more. I do it all and I only aim to do more and learn more. I don’t only want to help people reach their fitness goals I want to help them become the best versions of themselves. That is what Body Prime is all about helping people reach their Prime Bodies. I want to create beasts.
I love it when my clients get stronger and able to accomplish things they were not able to do before. That is how I know I am doing my job right as a trainer but also helps me know that my clients are working and doing their part as well. All of my success stories, support from other trainers, family, friends, and most importantly my clients is what I am most proud of. without their support Body Prime would not be where it is today.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moment since I started Body Prime would have to be my competition team. Last year I decided to put a team of about 12 of my strongest and fittest girls to go up against a couple teams in the Boston area, Florida, and Georgia. From where this team started to where they are today is nothing but amazing.
Over the past year, my team has gotten stronger, faster, and wiser. These girls are so dedicated and they train constantly and push their bodies to higher levels. We win some and we lose some but with every loss, we take it as a something we need to improve on.
We work on some of our weaknesses and come back stronger than before. I have to admire their dedication. I can train them but they have to want it. My girls are hungry and always looking for the next competition. what can I say ” We Stay Ready”!

Travis is the best trainer! He always made me feel comfortable without letting me “get too comfortable.” He pushed me past my own mental blocks and limitations. I would highly recommend him for anyone who has fitness goals but feels a bit overwhelmed / intimidated by the process. I went from not being able to do a push to holding a 3 minute plank! Thanks Travis!
