Meet Trailblazer Yvette Saulnier Taylor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yvette Saulnier Taylor.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve always had a genuine interest in fitness and nutrition. Growing up as a figure skater taught me (the hard way) that you need to eat well to perform well. The importance of nutrition became a large part of my lifestyle in my 20’s due to some of my own health issues. Cooking professionally within that realm naturally followed. But not without some hard work and long days in the kitchen. I trained, for free, in various kitchens ranging from here in Boston to Hawkes Bay, New Zealand to learn as much as I could. Ultimately, I knew that cooking privately is my passion. I’m fortunate to have had these experiences to shape who I am now and reinforce my vision.

Cooking is one expression of appreciating your health. With that said, being passionate and curious about good food are always an influence. I enjoy being a part of my clients’ wellbeing whether it’s helping them reach personal goals like the Boston Marathon or nourishing them through several pregnancies.

Has it been a smooth road?
Being a solopreneur certainly did not come easy for me. I take things day-to-day, try to be as open as possible, and continuously look for ways to learn and grow my business. I am a visual and creative person allergic to math, so learning to run a business on my own has been a challenge.

Over the last decade, my business has gone through several changes. At one point, I developed and packaged my own line of healthy specialty food products that were sold in stores throughout New England including Whole Foods. I was ahead of the curve at a time when it was much more difficult to get an artisinal product on the shelf and for a remotely affordable production and retail price. I lost a lot of sleep and gained a lot of knowledge. Wouldn’t change any of it.

My advice is to always stay true to your vision. No matter what anyone says. People will give you advice, support you and doubt you, make you rethink your goals and dreams. Don’t give up! The ebbs and flows are part of your growth. Get out there, as scary as it can be, find solid mentors, get your hands dirty and do the work. Stay clear about your business objectives and always keep your eye on YOUR vision, There is nothing more rewarding than being in control of your own interests and passion.

We’d love to hear more about Queen of the Pantry, Lifestyle & Wellness Chef.
I provide a customized service covering more than cooking. For some clients, I provide coaching and meal plans for weight loss, pregnancy, better energy or fitness goals. For others, convenient nutrient-dense meals to complement their busy lifestyle or help them get through medical treatments. I also cater small boutique events for clients and some local organizations.

My goal is to shift to my client’s energy away from the stress of meal planning and allow them to focus on their lifestyle. Most importantly, I give them back their time, and that is invaluable.

Which women have inspired you in your life?
I’m continually inspired by a woman who works hard, stay true to their passion and always have a sense of humor no matter what life throws at them. I lost my Mom to breast cancer, so I’m always in awe of the stamina and outlook on life that women survivors have, as she did. I learned more from her during that time than ever before.

In my industry, I have always been drawn to Julia Child and Martha Stewart. I grew up watching them with my Mom. Both of these women were forward-thinkers who impacted cooking in the home, as well as professional kitchens, for women cooks, they were true trailblazers.
