Meet Trailblazer Tori Gillern

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tori Gillern.

Tori, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve always considered myself a foodie. I absolutely love to try different foods and explore new places. About two years ago, I just started posting photos on my Instagram and sharing my food and travel experiences. I wasn’t really trying to get followers at the time, but it just sort of grew and now I’m considered a food influencer in the area. I’ve started partnering with local restaurants and businesses by trying out their food or using their services and posting about my experience on my Instagram account. I love it!

I’ve been working towards my Masters Degree for the past 3 years while working full-time and also keeping up my Food blog. I actually quit my job a few months ago somewhat spontaneously because I was unhappy. It ended up being a great decision because I now have a new job as a Marketing Manager for a company in the travel industry that I love.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I often compare myself to other bloggers or influencers out there. Some of them have hundreds of thousands of followers and they’re at the point where they can make a living off of their content. At times I feel intimidated or like there’s no way I can get to that point. Putting out consistent and engaging content is really hard. But I think of how far I’ve come in just a couple of years and I tell myself that if I stay true to my love of food and travel then the number of followers or likes I have really doesn’t matter.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Torisfoodstory – what should we know?
I typically specialize in local food and restaurants in the Boston area. Even more specifically, the North Shore area. I’m often trying out local fine dining spots or quick eats. I also travel a couple of times each year internationally and I love sharing my travel experiences as well.

So much of the media coverage is focused on the challenges facing women today, but what about the opportunities? Do you feel there are any opportunities that women are particularly well positioned for?
Women have so many opportunities, especially today due to the rise of media coverage on women’s equality. We have the opportunity to really take control of our careers and get to where we dream of going. Really anything is possible and owning a business, creating a brand, becoming a CEO or anything else is attainable.
