Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany White.
Tiffany, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Before I started Transformations, I knew I wanted women to discover different options for nail and skin services. I started out young knowing I wanted to be in the beauty business. My dream was to become a model, (as most young girls), but alas I was not tall enough. I started researching other ways to be in the business. All the while helping people to love the skin they were in. So, I enrolled in Catherine Hinds School of Esthetics and I loved it. Not only did I make some really good friends, I learned so much more than just skincare. I was ready to start my career in the beauty business, but no one wants to hire a student with no experience and fresh out of school. So, I decided to learn more, so I enrolled at Mansfield beauty to become a Nail Technician, to become more marketable. It was still a struggle. So, I kept working my 9 to 5 but was unhappy, I wanted to do what I went to school for.
So, I took the leap in 2015 to open my own business, but I knew it had to be different… no toxins, cruelty free, vegan-safe for clients, technicians, animals and the environment. I wanted to give people something different, without paying a high price.
My mission is to make sure that women and men love and take care of their whole natural selves, so I went to school to also become an Institute of Integrative Nutrition Health Coach.
Has it been a smooth road?
I would love to say that the road was easy, but it is a continuing balancing act. I don’t think you could fully prepare your self for the obstacles you face of being an entrepreneur. Such as hiring employees, keeping employees, balancing a budget, making sure that there is enough inventory etc. and that your clients are pleased. But that is what it is to be an entrepreneur, you become everything for the business. You wear all hats. But that is also the joy of the business. Knowing you make all of the decisions, you make your hours, you answer only to yourself. It is truly yours and you make it the way you want it to be.
We’d love to hear more about Transformations.
At Transformations, we only work on the natural nail. We don’t do any acrylics, tips or gel. We use products that are toxin free, cruelty-free (not tested on animals) and vegan for our skin and nail services. When you walk into Transformations, you will not smell any toxins, and there is no chemical smell. It is that different experience I wanted. That is what I am most proud of. There may have been an opportunity to make more money if we included those other services, but I wanted to stay true to my mission of whole health of our clients and technicians.
So much of the media coverage is focused on the challenges facing women today, but what about the opportunities? Do you feel there are any opportunities that women are particularly well positioned for?
I do think there are opportunities for women. What I think is limited is access to them. We don’t necessarily share information about different programs or groups that are there to give us support.
I try to use social media to stay knowledgeable about different groups or programs that support women in business. I think there would be more women in business if they knew what some of the resources were.
