Meet Trailblazer Taylor Love

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Love.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Taylor. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I am a 26-year-old designer from The New England area. The first inkling I can remember designing was a pillow in high school we also made a very immature pajama top and bottom ever since then I knew this is what I wanted to do. From here, I went to Mount Ida college where I received a bachelor of science in fashion design. Throughout my college experience, I developed And showcased two collections along with various single piece projects we learned for experience purposes. During my junior year of college, I became pregnant with my now four-year-old daughter Callie determined to finish and get my degree and regardless I would sometimes have to bring her to class with me, but it was all worth it in the end.

Post to college, I went on to release my first collection based on urban where which debut did in Rhode Island Rhode Island at Rhode Island fashion week. Since fashion week Rhode Island, I have done shows in New York and Boston at various different colleges all throughout Rhode Island. I have the New England fashion week in Connecticut and style week northeast in Rhode Island as well. As of right now, my focus is on lingerie and urban where ultimately I would like to be a bridal designer but it is very expensive to try and create a bridal gown. Especially, when you don’t have access to some of the materials that some of the already established Fashion houses do. So, I shifted my focus to urban where in my urban where the line is very very very big on androgyny with the LGBT queue community on the rise I noticed that there was no market for them you can either shop up man or you can shop women’s. There is no in between and that’s what I strive to create a brand that caters to men women and the in between. Throughout my collections and editorials, I have used trans models LGBT models Androgynous models as well as heterosexual ones. I really want to place a lot of emphasis on inclusivity, all of my collections feature male pieces female pieces and a trans piece that I feel as though looks good on a male or a female or somebody who looks like both.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has absolutely not been a smooth road I wanted to give up so many times, but I know I will be miserable if I do not follow my dreams I have wanted this for so long and in watching others success stories what I learned is to never give up that’s the best advice I can give to any other woman who may be struggling with the same journey. As my grandmother always says Rome wasn’t built in a day. There will always be obstacles it is your job is to overcome them glory only goes to those who want her another one of her quotes.

We’d love to hear more about Taylor Love Couture.
I’m a fashion designer that focuses on inclusivity and gender fluid collections. What sets me apart as a designer is I don’t stick to just one thing I love fashion all around I love making men I love making women and I love making kids I love making urban wear I love making bridal it doesn’t stop there! I want to extend myself into every avenue I can and I think that’s what sets me apart I don’t just stick to one idea or the fashion ideas that they put in your head for example that a collection should just be a women’s collection or it should just be a men’s collection. I think that’s one of the major things that sets me apart is that my brand and my collection feature male and female pieces as well as trans pieces.

Finding a mentor and building a network are often cited in studies as a major factor impacting one’s success. Do you have any advice or lessons to share regarding finding a mentor or networking in general?
I constantly reach out to peers that went to school with me, old professors and using YouTube is a great resource. I also attend a lot of networking events to try and get myself out there and meet people and just learn and absorb. I am always sure to follow other designers in my area, as well not only to know who my competition is but to learn at the end of the day, we are all trying to accomplish a goal and I would be more than willing to help somebody if they asked me, so sometimes, when I don’t know something I will ask a fellow designer.
