Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Rondeau.
Stephanie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I first developed a passion for health and wellness years ago, following my own struggle with disordered eating throughout high school and college. However, my professional background is in sports medicine, and I worked as an athletic trainer at the high school and collegiate level for 11 years before leaving after the birth of my daughter in 2016. During this time, I realized that although I loved my career, one of my true passions was to help people find their healthy living “sweet spot” in their own lives. That is why I earned my MS in Nutrition and then followed that up with completing my health coaching certification a few years later. While I was still working as an AT, I began a healthy living blog called I Train Therefore I Eat back in 2012. The blog started as a hobby but gradually became a bigger and bigger part of my life, and I eventually created Rondeau Group Fitness, an outdoor Bootcamp style class during the summer months. After the birth of my daughter when I decided to step away from full-time athletic training, I decided to put more energy into my wellness career, and this is when Rondeau Health and Wellness was born. I began taking on private health coaching clients, offering distance personal training, and have continued with Rondeau Group Fitness each summer.
Has it been a smooth road?
There have certainly been ups and downs, especially as a new mother. I can’t say that I have it all figured out, because I am still very much building up my own business, and am always learning as a parent, but I can say that following your passion is very much worth it. The biggest challenge at this point has been for me to feel relevant as a human and woman instead of just as a mother. Finding time to work on myself and my business is difficult with a curious two-year-old underfoot! My best advice for those who are just starting out would be to follow your passion and stick to your values. There have been opportunities for me that just didn’t seem to be in line with my vision for both myself and my business. I think that learning when to say no can be just as valuable as learning when to say yes.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am a certified health coach, and I specialize in helping women find their peaceful healthy place, while still enjoying life and its indulgences. I focus on body positivity, realistic goals, and exploring what healthy living means for each and every one of us. I strongly believe that there is no singular path that we all have to take to become healthy, but that different things work for different people. I am proud to help my clients feel empowered and positive about themselves and to help them end the negative feedback loop that so many women get stuck on in regards to health, body image, and stress.
We’re interested to hear your thoughts on female leadership – in particular, what do you feel are the biggest barriers or obstacles?
I think that the biggest barriers to female leadership are the same across many industries, not just specific to the health and wellness field. There are many “Old school” values and habits that need to be reexamined across the professional world as a whole, and I believe that women are beginning to really take a roll in bringing those to the surface. Intimidation, trust, and fair compensation are huge problems across many industries that are finally coming to light, and it is my hope that women can continue to be trailblazers to show that we are equals in the workplace and that we have a lot more to offer than we are sometimes given credit for.
