Meet Trailblazer Sandhya Garg

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sandhya Garg.

Sandhya, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Label Sandhya Garg is a state of mind, intellectual combined with a wry wit. With an avant-garde approach, each collection starts with a range of possibilities that are narrowed down to a wearable collection of bold colors combined graphically to create conversational prints. The brand ideology revolves around (but is not limited to) the unique interpretation and juxtaposition of world travels, regional folklore, mythology, superstition and architectural influences.

Rendering my unique point of view, I make sure that a strong signature, identity, and a clear vision, are the foundation of the brand. Sandhya Garg woman is confident, fierce, artistic and ready to embrace the cultures of the world. I polished my skills at International design studios training at Alexander McQueen, Alice Temperley and Izmaylova, learning everything from different pattern cutting techniques to hand embroidery craft and vintage knitting-lace making at the Gucci factory in Italy.

I decided to launch my own label after graduating from the London College of Fashion in 2011. The brand has an international presence thanks to a very successful stint on Project Runway Season 13, USA. On the famous reality show, she won 2 Challenges, Was in Top a lot and her work was loved by Heidi Klum, Nina Garcia, and Zac Posen. Specializing in womenswear, for me, fashion is all about glamour and personal style.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been a smooth road. Establishing a fashion business comes with its ups and downs and a lot of challenges. I have heard so many No’s that I have lost count but that hasn’t stopped me from trying every day. Perseverance is the key to being successful. There is no overnight success in this business. I have had some monumental opportunities and “yeses” and I have made the most of them. Key advice to any young women would be don’t be discouraged, its a marathon and you have to keep fueling yourself with positivity. Don’t let anybody shake your belief in you.

We’d love to hear more about Label Sandhya Garg.
I make beautiful resort/vacation wear dresses that are inspired by world travels that make you stand out in a crowd of black dresses. I am most proud of the fact that the creativity with which I started my brand has not been diluted in order to sell more. I have been able to find amazing women who love my vision and want to be a part of it.

Do you recommend any apps, books or podcasts that have been helpful to you?
Honestly, none, I just learn from life and people and keep moving forward.
