Meet Trailblazer Patrice Vinci

Today we’d like to introduce you to Patrice Vinci.

Patrice, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am a native Bostonian, I started in the business working for my Aunt who is a hairstylist and salon owner. I came from a family of creative people and entrepreneurs. I was inspired to do something I loved and own my own business, I worked on Newbury St and freelanced for many years before opening my own salon in 2008. I have had an interesting career both in the salon behind the chair and also working on film, red carpet, theatre and television talent. I love freelancing, but I really love the day to day experience of owning a business and working on salon clients. My salon staff, 17 hairstylists and me will be celebrating our 1o-year anniversary this year! We have been awarded top 100 salons in the America 3 times from Elle magazine and I have one Best of Boston for color 5 times by Boston Magazine and Allure achievements, I am very grateful and proud of. I have a talented staff of 30 people that includes stylists, assistants and receptionists I also hold an instructors license with the comm of mass and I teach and train my staff and other stylists on my techniques and tricks of the trade.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I’ll never forget the advice given to me by one of my my mentors which was: “ if it were easy everyone would be doing it” during tough times. I always remember that opening a business can be challenging in many ways, not only the physical part the build out of the business and the staffing and training, it took me along time to find my balance between being a stylist coworker and boss. One thing I learned is your team needs and wants a leader not a friend, if you try to be their friend you are robbing them and yourself of a professional experience to grow in, be their boss first!!! No matter how hard it gets, just keep showing up everyday, eventually, your hard work and dedication will show and pay off.

We’d love to hear more about Patrice Vinci Salon.
I specialize in color, all areas I can fix and transform anything, being a colorist for motion pictures and tv Amd theater I had to learn how to change color back and forth in short periods of time and sometimes, the colors are extreme. I got a lot of experience doing this in the salon, I specialize in blondes and Balayage. I love to paint highlights into the hair for a supernatural effect. I won most of my awards in all color categories, I am very proud of that, I think my brand represents the modern fashion forward women the girl that looks at Instagram for the best hair colors and the women who who reads magazines and follows celebrity culture. We have a professional but not pretentious atmosphere, we have created a place where people feel like they are somewhere important but they are part of the importance and that’s what makes us unique and special.

So much of the media coverage is focused on the challenges facing women today, but what about the opportunities? Do you feel there are any opportunities that women are particularly well positioned for?
I think with the #metoo movement, it’s time for women to be empowered and not be afraid to ask for what they want, I think the opportunities for women right now are endless. I think this is really a time for women to follow their dreams and be creative and fearless a lot of women are running companies, opening up small businesses and using social media to promote their brands and ideas. It has given access to so much information that you can really do anything you want right now!
