Today we’d like to introduce you to Paige McMahon.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I had owned a boutique for 6 years, right out of college. It was an amazing learning experience and eventually, although I didn’t realize it at the time, led me to where I am today. I had always wanted to create a line of my own but kept putting it off and sticking with my shop at the time. Fast forward a few years, I closed my shop and started a family. I was looking at my 4-month-old son when I got the urge to create and work for myself again and within a month I had come up with a few designs, a concept, and a name. But, I didn’t have the courage to admit or tell anyone about what I was doing. After closing my shop, I was afraid to ‘fail’ again. With the emotional support from a few friends and my family and a couple months to think it all over, I launched my what had been a secret Instagram and my website just before the holidays in 2017. I actually had friends calling me asking me if this was my line or if I was working for someone else. I had kept it such a secret because I was so scared. Eight months have passed and here I am, running my own jewelry business, designing, creating and selling to customers through my website and I’m in 9 retail stores as of now!
Has it been a smooth road?
I don’t believe anyone that says starting a business has been a smooth road. There are constant hurdles and struggles, managing them and your personal life at the same time is not easy but worth it. I think one of the biggest struggles for me is just that, time management. When you work from home and for yourself, you are constantly consumed with your work. I’m in a constant battle with myself that I’m not giving the time to my work, family and myself in a balanced healthy way. Structuring my days and life, so I feel as though my personal life and work life are both getting the attention they need is something I’m working on and trying very hard to accomplish every single day. That is my number one priority. This includes some of the very basic things like finding time to paint my nails because that makes me happy, taking walks as a family and time to let my son get play time in with his friends. There are of course big priorities too and many other little or mid-level priorities but I want to include how important doing those little things are, those are the things that keep you going day today!
We’d love to hear more about WISH Jewelry.
The line I created was made out of my personal want for something more out of my jewelry. I wanted very simple designs that could be worn by anyone from day to night but I wanted them to be more than that. I want these pieces and gemstones that I’ve incorporated into my jewelry to be subtle reminders of what your daily, yearly and/or lifelong aspirations are. I also recently created a personalized line where I take the gemstones of your loved ones whether they be children, best friends, parents, etc and build a personalized necklace made just for you. Meant to remind you of who your inspirations are as you go through your day to day life. Symbolizing those people that make you want to bring out the best person you can be. I’m proud to bring meaning to the jewelry people wear, I’m proud to offer personalized designs. I love being able to connect with my customers and make pieces of jewelry that they’re proud of. I hosted my first charity month in March where I donated a portion of my sales to a local organization, Special Olympics of Rhode Island, I look forward to hosting many more events like that where I can give back to my community.
Which women have inspired you in your life?
My mom. She’s hands down my number one cheerleader and always has been. Now, that I am a mom, I see her in a different light, she’s somehow even more special and dear to me that she was before, I didn’t think it was possible. She was a stay at home mom with three girls and she did it all, now having one of my own, I don’t know how she did it! As the three of us have grown, she continues to stand behind us on any path, we decide to take and is always supporting us, whether she agrees with our decisions or not. I’m continually trying to make her and my Dad proud of me, I’ll forever be aiming at that no matter how many times they tell me they are and no matter how old I get.
