Today we’d like to introduce you to Neysa Pierre-Francois.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I want to first start off by saying, as a teen makeup wasn’t a major part of my look and I barely saw women in my family wearing it. My love of makeup really started when I was a young single mom starting college in 2011. It was the time for myself I didn’t really have during the day. My son would be in bed and it would be my time to start my assignments. Subsequently, I’d stay up and watch Youtube videos from tutorials to product reviews and scroll through the posts in Facebook makeup groups. I started accumulating makeup, brushes, and more.
The first couple years, I practiced on myself in my free time and whenever I managed to go out. I started practicing with my mom and friends as well. By the end of my college career in 2014, I had completed a makeup certification program and provided makeup services for my school’s various fashion shows. A couple months after graduating with my Bachelor’s degree, I went on to attend Esthetics school. I wanted to grow my skills and become more knowledgeable about myself and future clients. During that time, I had a logo made, which took a little time to get right.
By the end of 2014, I got my license in esthetics, completed the Advanced Esthetics program, started working at a day spa, and paid to get my website built for my business. Since then I’ve done a lot of work building my skills, collaborating with people, taking classes, traveling, working with various makeup brands, and more. There’s been a lot of rough patches and some limitations while being a single mom, but it never took away my passion and drive.
All my experiences as a professional have gotten me to where I am today. My main priority for my business is growing and expanding my reach. One thing that has been constant is my thirst for knowledge, so I’m freshly back in school for Cosmetology, which I’m ecstatic about. It’s always been on my to-do list and it finally fell into place! Currently, I offer my clients customized cosmetics and pre-made products by an amazing company called Motives Cosmetics. I had a great experience with getting my site updated with new content as well.
All things are pointing to growth; I’m excited to offer more to my clients and continue my adventure in this creative thing we call the beauty industry!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It definitely has not been an easy road and there are many factors as to why. Being a mom is a wonderful and rewarding thing, but when it comes to being available at the last minute and traveling, it’s a challenge. My son is 7 now, but he was younger, I couldn’t take advantage of some opportunities. I accepted that because my job as a mom is always a priority.
In addition, not everyone will understand being a part of this industry, let alone be supportive. There will always be haters and naysayers. Some don’t think its a legitimate, lucrative, or fitting career, but it’s not for others to decide. It takes a while to get the negativity out of your head, but if it’s important to you, it’s worth it to stay consistent!
There’s always going to be competition. Someone who will be prettier, more talented, and more. You never know what those people really have going on, so focus on yourself and never stop striving to be the best version of yourself. Lastly, having to work another, sometimes unrelated job to keep yourself financially stable, is necessary for a lot of people. It can be extremely frustrating, but do what’s best for you.
If your goal is to become a full-time entrepreneur, then work towards that. If you only want to be part-time that’s fine too, everyone’s journey and goals are different. It’s liberating to remove those who can’t be supportive in your endeavor. Don’t give up, like they say, nothing worth having is easily attained.
We’d love to hear more about Neysa’s Faces.
I’m a Makeup Artist and Licensed Esthetician. I offer a variety of services. For makeup, I do weddings, proms, photo shoots, makeup classes, facials, lash services, waxing, and more. With makeup, I focus on a natural look, not to say clients won’t look glammed up or dramatic, but it’s all in the application. I don’t do heavy caked looks, it’s not my style. I want my clients to feel as comfortable as possible because some have never had their makeup done before. I don’t want them to leave and think they have a mask on and look like a whole other person. I want them to think they look like themselves, just an enhanced version.
In a time where Instagram and Youtube feature those who constantly wear/do heavy and unflattering, it sets me apart as an artist. As a brand, I’m proud to encourage my clients to be themselves and accept themselves flaws and all. Life would be so boring if we never went through ups and downs, it can make us better people. Freckles don’t always have to be covered and scars can’t be hidden, it’s just what makes you unique! Also proud of the publications of my work, there’s nothing like seeing your work being featured!
Which women have inspired you in your life?
My mom is an inspiration because no matter what life has thrown, she’s always made sure I had what I needed. And even with my own child, she has always helped me.
And in general, all the women I see who overcome adversity, abuse, and life’s tragedies inspire me. It lets me know my future is what I make it. I can accomplish anything I set forth to do. My passion and talents are great, but it’s about consistency and drives to keep going!
