Today we’d like to introduce you to Mehry and Arianna Sabet.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
As sisters, we always envisioned a life where we got to work together. After all, we are best friends. Little did we know that box dying our hair for one another in our parent’s bathroom in high school (sorry for the mess, Mom and Dad) would lead to a passion for hair and makeup. Arianna enrolled in Toni and Guy Hair Dressing Academy after high school, while I got my bachelors degree at UMass Amherst. We always had a plan to combine our areas of expertise and open a salon where we could work together and also live out our passions. Once I graduated from UMass, I enrolled in makeup school in Los Angeles. From there, the two of us created a website, started taking photos of our work and really lived out the whole “fake it till you make it” thing. Within 6 years, we have built a successful business and brand that resonates with our clients and is something we are insanely proud of.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There were plenty of bumps throughout our journey. Starting and running a business involves so much more than getting to do what you love every day. It’s a 24/7 job that you can’t clock out from. However, because we are so passionate about what we do, any challenges or roadblocks we face we deal with the best we know how and head on. We are constantly learning and evolving not only as artists but as business women. Our biggest piece of advice to those just starting their journey is to practice patience. Success doesn’t happen overnight. It takes long hours, rejection and many bumps along the way but if you focus and put all your energy into it, something amazing will begin to take shape. You have to trust the process.

Gloss Hair and Makeup Studio is both a full-service salon and an on-location wedding beauty team. Simple. We don’t believe in shuffling clients in and out to make a dollar. We want to be a part of their beauty journey. In this digital age, social media has skewed our perception of beauty. We are firm believers that if you feel good, you do good and the world could certainly use more of that.
Which women have inspired you in your life?
We are inspired by all the women who come through our doors each day. Every woman that comes to Gloss has a story to tell. Whether she’s a single mom, working 2 jobs to support her family, is the CEO of her own company or is a hard working college student with big dreams, we see so much resiliency, dedication and passion.
