Today we’d like to introduce you to Lucy Tang.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am a permanent makeup & lash artist at Beautie Addicts. I was born and raised in Vietnam until my family moved to the United States in 2009. As a kid, I always have a strong passion for art and beauty. I stepped into the beauty industry as a part time receptionist at a nail salon while going to school full time at MassArt to get a graphic design degree. Half way into the semester, I started to fall in love with the beauty industry and realized graphic design wasn’t what I want anymore, so I decided to drop out of college and became a nail technician. My favorite part of doing nails is I was able to use my artistic skill to do fun designs on client’s nails. I was so blessed to be featured on The Boston Globe magazine for “Best nail art in town” in 2014. I later became a licensed aesthetician where I learned how to design eyebrows, and do eyelash extensions. I added those two services at the salon and I enjoyed doing that so much along with nails. Seeing the happiness from my client’s face with a fresh set of brows and lashes makes my heart also happy. Not everyone comes in with perfect brows, a lot of them suffers from thin, uneven brows which makes it a little harder to get a nice shape. That’s when I decided to take a bigger step and became a licensed permanent makeup artist so I am able to use my artistic skills and save people from having bad or no eyebrows. After I did my first microblading on my model and seeing the tears of joy on her face, I could never imagine how important a pair of eyebrows can do to our face or to boost someone’s confidence so much. At that time, I knew I found my dream career that I am able to use my passion for art and beauty to make others feel beautiful. 2018, Beautie Addicts was established to provide lash and permanent makeup services.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has never been a smooth road for me to get to where I am today. Moving to the United States was basically a beginning of a new life where I had to learn a new language, adapt to a new culture, make new friends, and the list goes on and on… I was wondering then how will I ever going to learn English, and be able to communicate with people, when will everything going to get easier??? But as a fast learner, I joined my regular classes after only 1 year of ESL classes in high school, and soon made amazing friends, and managed to graduate high school with 4.1 GPA. Senior year in high school, as everyone was applying for their dream college, I was there questioning myself what do I want to be in the future? I was deciding between going to the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Science to be a pharmacist or Massachusetts College of Art and Design to be a graphic designer or Suffolk University for business? I was very confused but I decided to follow my passion for art and went to MassArt. It was very hard to balance life, work, and school from all the late nights studying, taking the train to school in the morning in the negative degree weather, while carrying all the art supplies back and forth, then work until 10 pm every day to support me. It was a very hard decision to drop out of college and wasted all the time, energy and money when I realized graphic design wasn’t what I want anymore. Everyone around me looked down on me, they were very disappointed with me and told me to go back to school another wise I will never be successful in life. Despite what others said, I listened to my heart and went on to live MY life. My advice for others, especially young people who are just starting their journey is always believe in yourself and you will be unstoppable! Learn from all the negativity life throws at you, it’s the best lesson that school will never teach you. Be patient, never give up because great things take times and lots of hard work. And before you invest yourself to learn a career, just make sure you will enjoy going to work every day doing what you love.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Beautie Addicts – what should we know?
Beautie Addicts specializes in eyelash extensions and permanent makeup to help all the busy women out there to wake up and feel glamorous with smudge proofed makeup. Eyelashes extensions are used to enhance the length, curliness, and thickness of natural eyelashes. One or multiple extensions are applied on one natural lash at a time with a special adhesive that will last from 4-6 weeks without damaging your lashes. To keep them always looking nice and full, clients usually come back 2-3 weeks for a refill. There are many options like natural classic to a very dramatic volume that clients can choose from to get their desired look. Along with eyelash extensions, I also offer semi-permanent makeup services like eyebrows microblading, ombré powder brows, eyeliners tattoo, lips tattoo. These procedures are semi-permanent which last 1-3 years depends on the skin anatomy and other factors like lifestyle, age, products use, etc. Can you imagine waking up every morning and save that extra 20 minutes of filling in your eyebrows, putting on eyeliners or mascara? Getting these services done by myself was the best decision I’ve ever made as a busy woman who can’t leave the house without makeup. I am so proud to make such a huge impact on my client’s life by boosting their confidence and make them feel glamorous with my services, especially for those who suffer from hair loss. What set me apart from others is I am a perfectionist, and I make sure to provide the best services for my clients and treat them like how I would like to be treated as a client. Client’s satisfaction and sanitation is Beautie Addicts’s priority, and without these amazing women’s trusts and supports, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
