Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Gallagher.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Lisa. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have always since elementary school art class with those charcoal sticks have gravitated towards anything creative. Growing up, my Uncle was an artist residing in Cambridge. I thought it was pretty much the coolest thing that you could do what you love. I loved to paint and any opportunity to create something. When I had my son also came a pretty serious case of postpartum depression. Through treatment, they had taught me I needed to find my outlet. I took up being a cake artist and loved the creative outlet it gave me. When needing to showcase and photograph my sugar art in competitions I then really started to fall in love with photography in all it’s forms from street photography to weddings. Now, I am a full time wedding and portrait photographer and couldn’t be happier.
Has it been a smooth road?
It was definitely a tough road. Nothing worth it some easy though right? You have to work for everything as it should be. It was a slow road to building up the proper equipment, take a lot of online classes and to enter into the wedding industry. I am pretty much self-taught so a lot of trial and error happened along the way. It took a while stick to my own style as I wasn’t the typical “textbook” photographer. My advice to newcomers in any business is keeping your head down, study and learn the trade but most importantly trust your own style. Everyone will have an opinion but the great thing about being an artist is that people will gravitate to you because of what you create and the style you made your own. It was definitely hard to absorb that not everyone will like you or your work, but when they do they are your biggest supporters.
We’d love to hear more about Lisa Elizabeth.
Most of my brand is focused on weddings. Weddings are an amazing thing to witness and capture. There are so many emotions throughout the day. My love for wedding is capturing those moments between the bigger moments of the day. I always say the best photographs are when you’re not posing for them. Those split-second moments when a single tear runs down dad’s face as he sees his daughter or the look on the groom as she enters the church. Those quiet moments between a grandmother and bride. When you know that look in the groom’s mothers face when she can’t believe her son is becoming a husband and couldn’t be prouder of him. The list is endless of moments that I adore to capture. Those moments I think is what sets me apart. When couples come to me they are looking for exactly that creative and respectful approach, capturing the true essence of your wedding day. 90% of our wedding day is unscripted and unposed, spontaneous spit second memories 10% formal gorgeous portraits. I can honestly say, I leave weddings feeling like part of their family and so honored to have been able to capture such an important day. I couldn’t be luckier.
Do you feel like there was something about the experiences you had growing up that played an outsized role in setting you up for success later in life?
I was always pretty much the quiet shy kid. I loved to people watch anywhere and everywhere. I have always been intrigued by the way people interact and the emotions.
