Thanks for sharing your story with us Kate. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I am the proud owner is Simply Eyelash. As a master esthetician, I try to stay as current as possible in the field. I loved the industry but was unsure on where I fit in. It wasn’t until I obtained my lash certification that I instantly knew I found my niche. I fell in love with it. I worked extremely hard and with a lot of determination, My business has been open for two 1/2 years now.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I started this business without any financial backing or savings. With my loan, I remodeled my space but was without enough money for anything else. I have far to reach all of my goals but step by step I move forward, accomplishing more and more.
I want to be a role model for my daughter, to show her that through hard work and perseverance dreams can be accomplished. I want her to be independent and rely on herself.
It’s hard being a single mother of two. I have school drop-offs and pickups and school meetings, activities, and as many mothers know the list goes on and everything relies on me. As of lately, we have found a balance and things are smoother. I work towards simplicity, peace, and happiness with work and family.
This by far was not a smooth road for me. I have shed so many tears and continue to shed them. I am committed to my shop and overcoming everything that comes my way.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Simply Eyelash – what should we know?
My specialty is professional eyelash extensions, I offer classic and volume lashes. I truly care about each of my clients and want them to feel beautiful inside and out. I love to see their smiles at first glance in the mirror, it’s the most rewarding and satisfying part of my job.
I also offer organic spray tanning, facial waxing, facials, lash, and brow tinting and makeup applications.
Finding a mentor and building a network are often cited in studies as a major factor impacting one’s success. Do you have any advice or lessons to share regarding finding a mentor or networking in general?
I was extremely lucky. I received my lash certification through Kristen Scollin and then went to work for her. Not only is she kind and patient. She was an incredible motivator and proof that a successful business in the aesthetics world is possible.
